Fifth s eason Jaime Totten returns to the UConn bench for her fifth season as assistant coach of the University of Connecticut women 's ice hockey program . Totten played for Connecticut head coach Heather Linstad at Northeastern, and joined her former coach during the 2000-01 season to run the defensive end of the bench and help build a successful Division I program at UConn. Totten is primarily in charge of recruiting for the Huskies, and the 2004-05 season marks the first season with four full recruiting classes on the team. Totten, a 2000 Northeastern graduate, never missed a game in her four years of playing for the Huskies. She earned All­ America honors in both 1997-98 and 1998-99 while serving as a two-year captain. Totten also was selected as an ECAC First Team All-Star and was a member ofthe 1996-97 Northeastern team that won the ECAC Conference and finished the season with a school-record 27-9-0 mark. Totten's outstanding leadership and sportsmanship qualities displayed both on and off the ice earned her the prestigioius Sarah Devins Award from the ECAC her senior year. Totten was also recognized by the Boston Police Department and Northeastern University when she was credited with saving a young man's life during the ECAC Playoffs in the spring of 2000. During the 1999-2000 academic year, Totten served as student assistant coach of women's ice hockey at her alma mater. Graduating with honors from Northeastern, Totten earned a bachelor's degree in cardiopulmonary science with a minor in exercise physiology. She was awarded with the National Student Athlete Award and was named a Scholar Student Athlete. In 1997, Totten became a certified strength and conditioning coach, and during the summer of 1998 she interned with Mike Boyle, a well-respected hockey strength and conditioning coach, at Boston University. While a student assistant coach at NU, she also worked with the team as a strength and conditioning coach . Totten was a member and assistant captain of the US Women 's Junior National Team, and participated at the US Women's National Team Festival in 1998. During the summers of 2001 and 2003, Totten coached the Select 16's and 17's at the Junior National Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y. "Jaime and Brooke know how to win and have been around success. First season Brooke Whitney joins the UConn women 's ice hockey coaching staff in 2004-05 for her first season of collegiate coaching . A two­ time All-America selection , Whitney played for Northeastern University from 1999-2002 where she graduated as the fourth leading scorer in NU's proud women 's hockey history with 86 goals and 86 assists for 172 points in 121 games played . Whitney netted 32 goals her senior year to help her earn the Patty Kazmaier Award , annually presented to the National Player of the Year, to accompany her first-team All-America honors. She was named the 2002 Female Athlete of the Year by the New England Sports Writers and she also was recognized as the top scholar-athlete at Northeastern with the coveted Jeanne L. Rowlands Award. Whitney received her bachelors degree in marketing from NU in June of 2003, graduating with a 3.27 GPA after four straight years on the school 's Honor Roll. While coaching with the UConn women 's ice hockey program, she will begin work on a masters degree in sports management. A native of Snohomish, Wash ., Whitney gained additional professional experience during the 2000 and 2001 summers assisting in the University of Washington 's athletic marketing and promotions office. She has also worked part-time as a professional skating and dry land training instructor outside of Seattle; and, after finishing her Northeastern career, Whitney played a season of professional hockey for the NWHL's Brampton (Ont.) Thunder. She has also played with the U.S. National team at various stages of her career. While new to the University of Connecticut, Whitney is a familiar face to the Husky coaching staff. Prior to heading to Storrs, Linstad was the head coach at Northeastern for Whitney's freshman and sophomore seasons in 1999 and 2000, while UConn assistant coach Jaime Totten captained NU 's 1999 team which advanced to the ECAC Semifinals, the nation's most elite collegiate tournament prior to the creation of an NCAA women's hockey championship in 2001 . Eight individuals who have made unique contributions to amateur hockey in the United States will be recognized during the 2015 AHCA Convention in Naples, Florida, the women’s hockey honorees being recognized on Friday, May 1, and the men’s hockey award recipients feted on Saturday, May 2. Heading the list of award winners is former Boston University head coach Jack Parker, winner of 897 games and three national champi- onships during a 40-year career at BU. Parker will receive the John MacInnes Award. Also being recognized are Bruce Delventhal, athletic director at Plattsburgh State and three-decade officer of the AHCA, who will receive the John “Snooks” Kelley Founders Award, and Karen Kay, former University of New Hampshire and U.S. National Team head coach, who will be presented the Women’s Hockey Founders Award. It is the second time the North Reading, Massachusetts native has received the award (2013). In addition to Carpenter’s recognition, Boston College head coach Katie Crowley took home Hockey East Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive year after guiding the Eagles to the best season in program history, compiling a 30-1-2 record during the regular season and claiming the No. 1 national ranking. Rounding out the three major awards for 2014-15 is Boston University forward Victoria Bach, named Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Year for her efforts over the course of the season. Carpenter turned in the third-highest point total in league history, scoring 20 goals and adding 21 assists for 41 points in 19 league games. Her 75 points (33g, 42a) overall also set a single-season school record, breaking her previous mark of 70. The U.S. Olympian was twice named Warrior Hockey Player of the Month in October and November 2014.
