WCHA Women’s Tie-Breaking Procedures • For Playoff Seeding Purposes Only

At the conclusion of the regular season, teams will be ranked by the number of points accumulated. If two teams are tied for first place, they will be declared co-WCHA champions. The first round of the WCHA's post-season tournament will be a best-of-three games format at the home site of the teams ranked higher in the final regular season standings. All eight teams participate in the first round of the tournament. First round playoff pairings will be: #1 rank vs #8 rank, #2 rank vs #7 rank, #3 vs #6, and #4 vs #5. Following the four first round series, the four winning teams will be re-seeded #1 thru #4 according to their standings in the final WCHA in-season competition and will advance to the WCHA FINAL FACE-OFF. In the event that ties are encountered in the determination of WCHA ranking or designation of home teams for playoff purposes, the following procedures will be used in the order given to break the ties: a) If two or more teams are tied, head-to-head competition during the regular (conference) season will be used to break the tie. b) If two or more teams are still tied after (a), the highest seed will go to the team with the most WCHA (conference) wins during the regular season. c) If two or more teams played a four-game series during the regular season and the teams have the same win-loss records for those series and the same number of WCHA wins, the team having the least number of goals scored against it in the four-game series shall have the higher rank. If two or more teams played a two-game series during the regular season, procede to tie-breaker d). d) If two or more teams are still tied after applying the provisions of (a), (b) and (c), the team having the greatest "winning margin" during the regular season will have the higher rank. Winning margin = WCHA goals for during the regular season minus WCHA goals against. e) Games played against WCHA opponents in holiday tournaments will not be counted in the determinations. f) Shootout wins used during the regular season will not be counted in the determinations. Shootout games will be recorded as a tie in the determinations.

The Badgers clinched the league title with five Winnipeg, MB). games remaining in the regular season and accepted the regular season trophy at the Kohl Center after its 8-4 win over North Dakota (Feb. 13). • As a team, the 2010-11 Badgers set UW program records for winning Wisconsin Badgers percentage (.927), wins (37), goals (212), shorthanded goals (13), shots on goal (136) and plus/minus (+556). No. 1-ranked Wisconsin (37-2-2, 24-2-2-2 WCHA) wrapped up a near- perfect season with a 4-1 victory over No. 3 Boston University in the 2011 NCAA Women’s Frozen Four national championship game at Tullio Arena in Erie, Pa., on March 20. • Senior forward Meghan Duggan was named the 2011 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner, honoring the Badger captain as the top player in NCAA Division 1 women’s ice hockey. She became Wisconsin’s third Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award winner, joining Sara Bauer (2006) and Jessie Vetter (2009). • The Badgers brought home their fourth national championship after previously taking home the title in 2009, 2007 and 2006. This year marked Wisconsin’s sixth NCAA national tournament appearance and fifth Frozen Four berth. UW is 14-2-0 in the national tournament for a .875 winning percentage. • Wisconsin ended the season on a 27-game unbeaten streak, posting a 25-0-2 record since losing to Minnesota Duluth on Nov. 28, 2010. The Badgers capped the streak with a 14-game winning streak, Jan. 29 through March 20, after tying a pair of games against Minnesota Duluth and Minnesota in mid-January. The current streak is the second-longest unbeaten streak in program history. The program record stands at 32 games (28-0-4), a stretch running from Nov. 25, 2006 to Oct. 14, 2007. The present streak surpassed the Badgers’ 2008-09 season-opening 20-game unbeaten streak (18-0-2) as the second-longest all-time. • Wisconsin’s win over Boston University in the national title game was the Badgers’ 37th victory of the season (37-2-2), marking the most wins in a single season in NCAA women’s hockey history. The previous mark of 36 wins was achieved three times – by Minnesota (36-2-2) in 2005, by Wisconsin (36-4-1) in 2006, and by Wisconsin (36-1-4) in 2007. UW also finished the season with a nation-best .927 winning percentage. • Forward Hilary Knight became the third Badger and 16th player in NCAA history to hit 200 career points with her 200th and 201st points coming on a pair of assists against Boston College (March 18). She netted her 100th career goal against Bemidji State (Feb. 4), becoming the first Badger to reach 100 career goals. She finished her junior season with 112 goals and 90 assists for 202 career points. • This season, Meghan Duggan became the second Badger and 13th 2010-11 WCHA Women’s Release • Season-in-Review • 042211 2010-11 WCHA Women’s Team Statistics • All Games • Final
