MARY’S COLLEGE ANNUAL 2006 17th October The Under 16 Badminton players suffered double defeat to Terenure.

18th October The School Musical began today and runs all week – ‘The Wiz’ with Conor McGlade in the leading role, in St. Louis High School.

19th October Better fortune for the Badminton players with a win against Confey College, Lexlip.

20th October Form 5 played visiting English school, Aldro in rugby. History does not relate the score but rest assured the Irish give the fathers of the game of rugby a run for their money, of whatever currency.

21st October Though the Under 16 Basketball team lost to High School they still qualify for the quarter finals.

22nd October The Under 13s played Castleknock, while the north side of the city was alien territory for some, they won two out of three matches with the C team just missing out on a victory. No sooner had they said goodbye to the Welsh; the 6th Class boys hosted forty-four Cork Constitution RFC players.

The Under 13s played Belvedere, again on the North Side and, again, the C team were the only ones not to score a victory. 27th October The Under 19 Basketball team scored an impressive victory over Tallaght Community School, 20-9 28th October With ghoulish thoughts and vampiric musings, school finished for the mid-term break. 29th October A 6th Class golf outing in Glenmalure GC organised by enthusiastic parents. Not a ball was lost. 9th November In four games against Clongowes Wood, St. Mary’s Under 13 teams were winners of two. The As and Cs emerged victorious with very strong action in the second half. That evening the prospective parents of next year’s 1st Year were shown around the school.

This was the first draw on the St. Mary’s court and a great demonstration of North/South equality. 6th December From a range of Junior School outings; 6th Class went to Kilmainham Gaol (with the usual concerns about their liberal return), 3rd Class went to the National History Museum and 2nd Class went to Alladin. (The 2nd class lads seem to have had the best deal.)

Rory’s death has shocked and that Rory was “popular, he was saddened us all: especially his Mum sensitive and loving, he was a doer for and Dad, his sisters, his relatives, and others, especially his less privileged all his friends. We offer them our sincere sympathy.

There is no such thing as death without tears, even for the Christian. A young and sudden death makes us ask: why? Why did it have to happen?

He returned to London after one academic year in St. Mary’s, moving to a new school there, where he had settled down well since Christmas.

The sudden accidental death of Rory, in a fall from a high window in a friend’s house, has shocked us all, especially his peers in 4th Year. He is buried beside his friend in London. May we one day celebrate with him at the banquet of eternal life.

Senior Cup Team Report Shane Timmons sprinted up and smashed Burschi Wojnar back about 10 2005-2006 yards; it certainly set the tone for the game. Our pack was well on top, St. Mary’s 34 – 22 St. Gerard’s securing possession at the rucks and Our first Cup match was against a line-out and Cowhey orchestrated the strong St. Gerard’s side, which had backline magnificently. Cowhey landed eight players returning from the side a penalty in the first few minutes and that had beaten Terenure the year then, on the 8th minute, Ray Crotty before. Some newspapers had them slipped three tackles to score in the down as favourites, as we had only two corner. From the touchline, Cowhey players from last year’s side returning. converted. We were putting Gerard’s With two Irish School’s players, Kyle under all kinds of pressure.
