Archbishop Erling Eidem from Uppsala, Sweden presided in his capacity as retiring president of the Lutheran World Convention. Professor Anders Nygren of Lund was elected the first President of the LWF and Dr Sylvester C. Michelfelder of the USA who had served as acting executive secretary was confirmed at the first Executive Secretary of the LWF. The sub-themes were: the Faith in which she lives today (the Word, the Sacraments, the Church), the Mission she should fulfill (Evangelism, Foreign mission, helping one another), the Problems she must face (relations to other churches, relations to the state, secularism).
