In this garden there are two places that say their names, Kay Bartlett, and Student Poll 8 Melphine Shmittou. Student Artwork 8 One of these women was Kay Bartlett. Kay worked at our school for 28 years. She was the elementary school secretary. She worked in the old Contest 9 elementary school. She started in 1971 and retired in June 1995. Kay loved her job and loved all the kids in La Conner. One thing that she was known for Newspaper Staff: was knowing every phone number of every kid by memory. She didn’t even have to look at the phone book! Kay had four children: three girls and one • Arjuna Adams son. Her hobbies were gardening, reading. She also loved volunteering for things that helped other people. Kay grew up and got all her education in • Charles Baker Seattle. Kay was a very caring person. Braves’ Bulletin Recipe of the Month By Savannah Radlinger Ingredients: Directions • 19 ounce box of Nabisco Step 1: Crust Famous chocolate wafer, Mix together crushed chocolate wafers, sugar, and butter. Press over finely crushed bottom and partially up the side of the prepared pan. Refrigerate while • 2 tablespoons of sugar making the filling. • 6 tablespoons of butter, Step 2: Filling melted In a large bowl, beat cream cheese until its smooth. Beat sugars, • 1 ½ pounds of cream cheese, cornstarch and pumpkin pie spice until all combined. Beat pumpkin pie softened mix and eggs one at a time, add vanilla and beat until smooth. Reserve • ½ cup of granulated sugar ½ cup of batter. Microwave the chocolate for 30 seconds, stir and • ½ cup packed brown sugar microwave for another 15 seconds. Stir again, • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and mix into reserved batter then microwave another 15 seconds. Pour batter into the • 1 tablespoon of pumpkin pie spice prepared pan. Dollop heaping tablespoons of the chocolate mixture over the top of the cake, • 1 cup of pumpkin pie mix then swirl with a small knife or spatula.
