MEDIA GUIDE VASALOPPET’S WINTER WEEK 2018 Media Guide Vasaloppet’s Winter Week 2018 The time has come for another Winter Week, starting with Kortvasan on Friday, February 23, and finishing with the 94th Vasaloppet on Sunday, March 4. Welcome! In 2017 a total of 97,411 participants registered for Vasaloppet’s races. Both the Winter Week and Summer Week have grown massively in recent years and Vasaloppet now ar- ranges ten winter races and ten summer races in the Vasaloppet Arena. For the seventh year in a row, the Vasaloppet Winter Week will attract over 60,000 registrants, and there are plenty of start places still available in many of the races. This year the snow supply is also exceptionally good. This year’s Kranskulla Sara Wadman and Kransmas Joakim Kullberg will be working hard. Among the races we find the world’s biggest ski race just for women (the 30th anniversary Tjejvasan), the world’s biggest ski relay race (Stafettvasan), the world’s biggest night ski race (Nattvasan, under a full moon this year!) and the world’s biggest cross-country ski race (the 94th Vasaloppet). Those who wish can also complete Vasa- loppstrippeln in 2018 by skiing, biking and running 90 or 45 kilometres. Sunday March 4 15:00 Awards ceremony and press conference Vasaloppet men and women, top three, at the stage in the finish area in Mora. Press cards and press parking Press cards are distributed in the press centre to all accredited members of the media. Note that a special permit is needed for work in the finish line area. Permits are applied for in the press centre. A limited number of parking spaces for members of the media are available at the start, the checkpoints and the press centre. A special car sign is needed and can be collected along with accreditation by those who have applied for permits. Food In the press centre we offer light refreshments every day. Food vouchers for lunch in the Vasaloppet Trade Fair restaurant can be purchased for an amount of 100 Swedish crowns in Vasaloppet’s House. Follow Vasaloppet Bus to the Vasaloppet start on Sunday March 4 MEDIA There is a limited number of bus seats set aside for members of the media going to the Vasaloppet start. The bus sets off, with a guide, from the bus stop on Strandgatan below Mora Hotell at 04:25 on March 4. The bus leaves the start at 08:10 and arrives in Mora in good time before the first person crossing the finish line. It is estimated that the bus will be back in Mora by about 11:00. Advance booking is required, and can be made at the press centre no later than Saturday March 3 at 10:00. PHOTOGRAPHERS Vasaloppet has a bus, with a very limited number of seats, set aside for photographers. It departs from Mora and follows the elite from the start along the track back to Mora, including the finish. Advance booking is required, and can be made at the press centre no later than Saturday March 3 at 10:00. If you take your own car to the start A rather troublesome journey awaits those who plan to follow the elite in their own car, and we recommend setting out in good time. You must have passed Fiskarheden before 07:00 – after that the Vasaloppet road is sub- ject to one-way traffic. And then you may count on the final five kilometres to the press parking by the start taking about an hour! On the road back to Mora you will follow the track and with some luck you should be able to see the elite pass Mångsbodarna, Risberg and Evertsberg. With even more luck, and keeping a cool head, you can also make it to photogenic Hökberg. There is, howe- ver, no chance of getting both to Eldris and the elite’s finish. Another good photo tip is the Evertsberg lakes; or why not go for the entry to the Oxberg checkpoint, where the track snakes its way in over snow-covered fields. Note that there is no parking space adjacent to the Smågan and Eldris checkpoints. Finish line photography in Vasaloppet A limited number of still photographers (15–20) will have access to photo steps at the finish in connection with the elite finish in Vasaloppet. A special photo-vest is required to set foot on the photo steps, and applying for such a vest can be done in the press centre no later than Saturday March 3 at 10:00. Media broadcasting live from the finish has access to a mixed zone for interviews. We refer other media to the stands or to a special area behind the studio building and finish line portal. Accredited members of the media must follow directions from fun- ctionaries! Text journalists and photographers without finish line accreditation are referred to an area behind the finish line. A joint press conference for the women and men will be held on the stage in the finish area at 15:00. After the press conference there is time for additional interviews and photography.
