Our Sporting Diary 2017 – 2018 September Happy Lunchtimes On Monday 11th September saw the launch of Happy Lunchtimes. Activities are specifically designed to improve and encourage personal, social and emotional development amongst the children. We are committed to ensuring that lunchtimes are positive, enjoyable and a fun filled part of the day. Exciting and engaging activities are planned each day with the children in mind; ensuring that something is planned to suit and involve every individual. Some of these thrilling activities include: Chalking Dancing and disco moves to music Fitness activities (mountain climbers, squats, burpees and star jumps) Target practice Construction activity (straws and blocks) Team and individual skipping games Creating and racing paper aeroplanes Widgets Clubs start On Monday 18th September clubs started. The children were asked the types of sports and activities they would like to be on offer this year. Taking them on board, we devised the first half term’s clubs letter. This went out live for parents to book on via parent mail. Active Cheshire Assembly On Wednesday 20th September, Active Cheshire came in to re-launch the 100 mile challenge. Children were thrilled at this challenge and very excited to receive their pedometers. All children in KS2 now have their pedometers and should be tallying how many miles they have done so far. This is a new initiative to encourage children to become more active before, during and after school. This could be anything from taking the dog for a walk to walking to school; it could be walking to the shop instead of going in the car or it could be just playing on the park with friends. The feedback from the children who have been doing this has been really positive; they want to compete against each other to do the most steps. October Cross Country at Great Sankey High School Ten children from Year 5 and 6 were chosen to represent Chapelford at a cluster cross country competition. These children did exceptionally well with the boys team qualifying 1st and the girls team missing qualifying first by 1 point. The Chapelford boys dominated the field with four of the boys coming in the top 5. It was a pleasure to watch how they paced themselves to ensure they could complete the whole 1 mile course. The girls did really well with all four of them finishing in the top 10. All the children had improved their position from the last competition they went to, which is down to their hard work, enthusiasm and encouragement for one another. It was lovely to see the team spirit and positive reinforcement for their team mates. Walton Gardens Cross Country On Saturday 30th September, a number of our budding athletes took part in the first of three cross country races at Walton Gardens. Despite the challenging weather conditions, the children did superb; fighting against the wind. We are looking forward to the next one taking part in November. If you would like to join us, then please let us know. It is on Saturday 18th November. Sporting Engagement Day Eleven children were selected to represent the school in a Sporting Engagement Day on Wednesday 11th October, held at Orford Jubilee Hub. The Children were brilliant, they took part in Boccia, Football, Table Cricket and Archery. They all won a medal for competing and they were complimented for their impeccable behaviour. All the 11 children encourage each other and supported them to achieve their very best. We are immensely proud of them all! Year 3/4 Basketball Development Competition Tuesday 17th October saw some of our Year 3 and 4 children take part in a basketball competition. This was a development competition to encourage and introduce the skills of basketball. The children’s confidence, enthusiasm and determination grew throughout each game, which saw their skills develop. They helped one another and became much more confident with the game. It was really lovely to have parents there to support the children. Warrington Disability Sports Partnership Warrington Disability Sports Partnership came in on Thursday 19th October and worked with our Year 3 and 6 children. During the day, the children learned how to play Boccia. They had to think tactically, aim carefully and apply the correct force. It was a great opportunity for the children to demonstrate their skills and work effectively as a team. Not only this, but the children had the opportunity to play blind football too. This proved to be more of challenge, as other senses were needed in order for the children to succeed. Communication from the captain and goal tapper was a vital aspect of the game. The children thoroughly enjoyed this and really tried hard. Bikeability Year 6 children have spent two days out exploring the roads of Chapelford, whilst learning how to correctly signal turning left and right. They now understand the importance of having a road worthy bike which is safe to use, which is the correct height and frame for them. The year 6 children have demonstrated excellent listening and communication skills during this exercise to ensure that their safety is paramount. Children are aware why certain clothing needs to be worn when cycling and how significant a helmet is to the protection of their head. They had great fun and learned so much. We can’t wait to see them safely cycling around keeping healthy and active. Football and Netball Friendly On Tuesday 7th November 16 Year 5&6 children and 9 Year 3&4, who attend the football club, were chosen to compete in a friendly against Culcheth Community Primary School. The children were very supportive towards one another and really excelled in the sport with the Year 5/6 teams winning their game 16-1 and the Year 3/4 winning their game 6-2. The children demonstrated excellent communication, enthusiasm and sportsmanship throughout the game. The children complemented the other team and were a real credit to themselves. The following week Chapelford hosted Culcheth for a Netball friendly. This was the first opportunity for many of the children, who haven’t played in a competitive game of netball yet, to demonstrate their skills so far. This was a great experenice and the children had the opportunity to play against older children, who were very tall. They put in 100% throughout the game and showed real maturity shaking hands and encouraging the other team as well as their peers. The children were incredible and applied many of their football skills that they have been practising. Year 3/4 rugby friendly against Culcheth Primary School Twelve children from Year 3/4 took part in a tag rugby friendly. The children worked so hard as a team, they communicated with one another and ensured that everybody was involved. Amazing achievement by all with fantastic rugby skills on display. Mixed ESFA Football under 11s competition Twenty children from Year 5/6 went to represent the school in our cluster football competition. The wind was bitter and the rain was trying to dampen their spirits but they preserved and worked tirelessly to secure a place in the final. The children never gave up after having a penalty shootout in the semi-final; which was very intense. We are now looking forward to the county finals in January.
