The Big “L” Club was established in 1958 and was formed by a group of dedicated supporters to become the of cial sports booster of LHS. The Club’s primary purpose is to support the Lancer Athletic Program while boosting morale. The athletic program now elds more than 60 teams at the varsity, junior varsity, and freshman levels. The Big “L” Club supports the Athletic Program throughout the entire year sponsoring the Fall, Winter, and Spring Awards nights presenting award plaques to the athletes who have received outstanding recognition at the conference, county, and state levels. The Big “L” Club continues to induct into the Hall of Fame, honoring the recipients at a Hall of Fame Brunch in October. Each year in May, our senior athletes look forward to participating in our Lancers on Parade Fundraiser, where our very own LHS student athletes get to showcase out ts and enjoy food donated from local vendors. It is truly an inspiring night for our community to come together as local businesses, restaurants, and clothing vendors embrace Livingston’s nest, making it a special night for our seniors. In June, as the school year comes to a close, The Big ”L” hosts a Pep Rally for the entire senior class where the LHS male and female athlete of the year is announced, and we honor all of our senior athletes, cheerleaders and band members. At the Pep Rally we provide a motivational speaker to motivate the senior class and also announce our gift of the year to the Livingston Athletic Department. The Big “L” Club also contributes time and funds to a variety of projects to bene t Livingston High School athletes and the student body at large. In the past, we have gifted exercise equipment for the tness and wellness center, helped purchase the softball scoreboard and golf cart for our LHS sports trainers, donated a Hall of Fame Wall which proudly presents all of our time honored athletes in the wellness center. The Big L provided video cameras and software for all of our LHS coaches and teams to use for instructional purposes as well as two portable speakers and a tunnel of success were donated for all teams to use for their big games. To boost the spirit of LHS, The Big L Club has purchased a mascot, Sir Lawrence the Lancer. Sir Lawrence attends various school and sporting events throughout the year. Most recently, a portable scoreboard, a donation to the baseball dugouts, and The Big L Snack Shop were donated. The Snack Shop will provide FREE snacks to all our in-season athletes so they can refuel after school, before a game, or practice. The Big “L” Club gives our community a reason to come together to participate and cheer for our LHS sports teams.     27th Annual Awards Dinner October 22, 2015 President’s Message Inductees, Scholarship Recipients, Family and Friends, It is with great honor that I welcome you tonight to our 27nd Annual Newark Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Dinner. Since 1988, we have been honoring athletes from public and private schools in and around the City of Newark. Our initial purpose was to focus attention on Newark’s glorious past and it’s bright future by cre- ating a positive environment where friendships, camaraderie and memories can be renewed. Tonight we continue that tradition with eighteen new Inductees, four Scholarship Winners, a Life Time Achievement Award and two State Championship Teams, the 1963 Central Basketball and the 1966 South Side Football Teams The Honorees have proven, as in the past, that they are to be recognized as true role models, a characteristic very much in need these days, whether in a large city or a small town. You can turn to a bio page in this or any one of the previous twenty six books of inductees and find a role model you can be proud to emulate. The hallmarks of a good athlete are dedication, desire, teamwork, hard work, time management and good sportsmanship. TIMKO REPORT Regular Season Game Definition – 2nd Reading – A definition of what the NJSIAA believes constitutes a regular season game was sent to all schools. The Executive Committee passed the definition in its first reading; second reading will take place in April. If passed, schools will be polled six months later to see if they approve the definition. The importance of this definition is in the NJSIAA’s ticket price negotiations with the Department of Education, who does not recognize holiday and county tournaments as regular season games. NJSIAA thinks all games leading to the state tournament should be considered as regular season games. For the athletes, many hours of physical and mental training are needed to be competitive on the field. Coaches, trainers, school officials and other volunteers donate their time and skills at practices, games and doing the administrative tasks required to manage a team. Over the years, parents provided and continue to provide their children with emotional support and financial assistance—plus taxi and cheerleading services for games, practices and tournaments throughout the season. Mr. Mueller Pierre, Principal of Union Avenue Middle School, welcomed all to the Board Meeting being held at the “Home of the Eagles” where the model is student achievement. He stated his school had the highest MSGP in the district of 3.8. He thanked his staff and his two Assistant Principals Mr. Bussacco and Mr. James along with his Dean of Students, Mr. Brown. Noting that Union Avenue Middle had a host of programs and activities going on he thanked the Board members for always approving the activities and programs he requested. Under the direction of the new music teacher, the students performed two musical selections, “Dominance” and “Star Wars”.
