Skyland Conference needs to poll our softball coaches to see if they would like to wear helmets when they are coaching on the baselines, to follow what is being done with baseball. Kim Cole said that NFHS is not making this mandatory. Online CPR – for re‐certification – will have decision the first week of October. Issue of 6 man football crew vs 5 man crew‐ West Jersey League has decided to use a 6 man crew when the can. Also NJSIAA had attorney check to see if any liability could come out of an injury in a game with a 5 man crew if other schools in conference were using a 6 man crew. Answer was that anyone could sue for any reason, but saying 6 man crew insures more safety would not stand in court. Skyland Conference need to take a poll on the Boys Lacrosse proposal that was presented earlier this week so I can report our conference’s preference at next Leagues and Conf meeting. They need one vote of either yes or no from the conference. Question of the $100 fee in addition to entry for wrestling Districts‐ this is the timeline for its approval according to Steve Timko: a. There was a meeting of the 32 Districts heads at the AD meeting in AC last March and it was discussed. b. The discussion was put into the wrestling committee’s minutes online. c. NJSIAA did not feel that $100 was too much, as Steve stated it is less than schools pay for in season tournament entries. d. The proposal went to the Region presidents. e. Finance Committee approved the $100 fee in June f. NJSIAA did not want the schools that host to lose money. Football‐ the proposal that was developed on Tuesday at NJSIAA calls for a start of practice on 8/11/14 and 8/10/15 raised some questions about how this effects the winter season and the number of days of practice before the first games. Some AD’s at the L&C meeting wanted a “blackout” period some time during the summer to give the athletes a “rest”, during this blackout the coaches would not be able to work with kids for fall sports. NJSIAA would like to know if our conference would be in favor of this. I have attached the FB proposal to this email. Allan J. Stumpf Voorhees HS Director of Athletics Vice President Skyland Athletic Conference 256 Rt. 513 Glen Gardner, NJ 08826 [email protected] Office‐ 908‐638‐2106 1 2014 NJSIAA Football Group Championship Tournament and Regular Season Schedule Power Points Introduction • New Jersey has always taken pride in being considered a trend-setting state regarding interscholastic athletics. However, when it came to football, 49 of the 51 state associations play to a group state championship. New Jersey is 1 of 2 states that does not award an overall football group champion. • All other NJSIAA sports play down to a group state championship or equivalent. • Approximately 346 member schools play football in NJSIAA – 308 Public Schools and 38 Non-Public Schools. • Seeking permission to allow the NJSIAA to conduct public group state championships in football by eliminating the second sentence to Article IX of the NJSIAA Constitution. • Passage of this legislation will require a two-third (2/3) approval of the ballots cast on this proposal. 27th Annual Awards Dinner October 22, 2015 President’s Message Inductees, Scholarship Recipients, Family and Friends, It is with great honor that I welcome you tonight to our 27nd Annual Newark Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Dinner. Since 1988, we have been honoring athletes from public and private schools in and around the City of Newark. Our initial purpose was to focus attention on Newark’s glorious past and it’s bright future by cre- ating a positive environment where friendships, camaraderie and memories can be renewed. Tonight we continue that tradition with eighteen new Inductees, four Scholarship Winners, a Life Time Achievement Award and two State Championship Teams, the 1963 Central Basketball and the 1966 South Side Football Teams The Honorees have proven, as in the past, that they are to be recognized as true role models, a characteristic very much in need these days, whether in a large city or a small town. You can turn to a bio page in this or any one of the previous twenty six books of inductees and find a role model you can be proud to emulate. The hallmarks of a good athlete are dedication, desire, teamwork, hard work, time management and good sportsmanship. These are the same qualities necessary to succeed in the classroom and the workplace. That’s why our Hall of Fame Family of Inductees are to be viewed as success stories, on and off the field. To our Scholarship Award Winners, you have been recognized to possess the characteristics outlined above; therefore, we wish you good fortune in college and hope to see you back here one evening on the dais, as a future Inductee into the Hall of Fame.

A roster sheet was passed around for contact information. ______________________________________________________________________________ STEVEN J. TIMKO REPORT Regular Season Game Definition – 2nd Reading – A definition of what the NJSIAA believes constitutes a regular season game was sent to all schools. The Executive Committee passed the definition in its first reading; second reading will take place in April. If passed, schools will be polled six months later to see if they approve the definition. The importance of this definition is in the NJSIAA’s ticket price negotiations with the Department of Education, who does not recognize holiday and county tournaments as regular season games. NJSIAA thinks all games leading to the state tournament should be considered as regular season games. L&C DePaul Catholic HS / Big North Appeal – DePaul Catholic sought relief from their placement in the Big North conference.
