CEREMONY AT THE WATER GATE.

When the Royal Car reaches the Water Gate of the Castle, and is stopped at the point which has been indicated to the Chief Constable, Her Majesty and His Royal Highness will dismount. The Equerry will mount the steps leading to the door. When Her Majesty places her foot on the lowest step a signal will be given (arranged by the Ministry of Works) to the Trumpeters on the King's Gate, who will sound a fanfare. The Equerry will then knock at the door and say 8- "I demand admission in the name of the Queen." The door will then,be thrown open by the Attendant (Mr. O.G. Williams) and reveal the Constable (The Right Honourable Lord Harlech, KoG., G.C.M.G.) standing within carrying the key on an Oak tray. The Constable will immediately proceed down the steps followed by the Attendant, and take up his position on the Broad Step to the right of Her Majesty (His Royal Highness standing on the Queen's left). Her Majesty will then turn to the right facing the Constable. The Constable will say: "Madam, I surrender the key of this Castle into Your Majesty's hand", to which the Queen, touching the key, will reply8 "Sir Constable, I return the key of this Castle into your keeping." The Constable will then turn and hand the key on the tray to the Attendant. At this point a signal on the flag turret will be given by Mr. John Williams, and the Royal Standard and the Royal Emblem of will be broken on the Eagle Tower. The Constable will conduct the Queen and The Minister will conduct the Duke of Edinburgh up the stairs into the Lower Chamber of the Eagle Tower. The Royal Suite follow and, all having entered, the Attendant with the key will bring up the rear, place the key on the table, close the door and remain there on duty. For the purpose of opening the door the Attendant will have the assistance of Mr. R.H. Roberts,

The Constable of the Castle will present Mr. Geraint G. Walters, Director for Wales of the Ministry of Works.

On reaching the top step from the Water Gate the Constable and Minister will fall back and the procession will be formed as under. The Royal Procession up the Processional Way move forward in the following order*

As soon as the last of the procession has moved into the Dais the Band of the Royal Marines will play* and the Choir will sing, all present standing and joining in the singing, -

Her Majesty and The Duke of Edinburgh will go unaccompanied on to the temporary Balcony where They will remain for about 3 minutes.

While Her Majesty is on the Balcony those forming the procession will so arrange themselves as to be in the same order as the original procession, as from the Water Gate to the Dais.

On Her Majesty's return from Queen Elinor's gate Madame Dilys 7/ynne Williams, the Conductor of the Choir, will be presented to Her Majesty.

When The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh attended by the Minister in Attendance and the Constable reach the Dais the Royal Marine Band, accompanied by the Choir, will play and sing 8=

10.43 a.m. Her Majesty and His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh will then proceed down the Processional Way to the Eagle Tower, followed by the others in the Royal Procession, in the same order as before.

10.45 a.m. The Constable and Deputy Constable of the Castle take leave of Her Majesty and His Royal Highness, who enter the Royal car and leave by the Water Gate, and, preceded by the police escort car, commence their drive via Castle Ditch, Bridge Street, Bangor Street, and through Caernarvonshire via
