Glamorgan, including journals for the years 1816-19, 1822-7 (numbered vol. 5), 1827-34 (vol. 6), 1834-42 (vol. 7), 1842-7 (vol. 8), and 1848-55 (vol. 9) (for vol. 4, 1819-22, see Calvinistic Methodist Archives 8710); printed diaries 1837; 1943-5; 1850-1 (very few entries); a `day book' or diary, 1854-61, with additional entries at the end by his son also named William Griffiths; a note-book containing autobiographical data compiled at intervals ? up to 1860; thirteen letters, 1825-6, addressed by him to his future wife Miss A. G. Jones, and one letter, 1826, written by him to his wife; twenty-five miscellaneous letters, 1840-60 and undated, received by him; thirty letters, 1846-9 and undated, received by him and his wife from their son William; printed copies of reports and notices of general meetings of the Glamorganshire Banking Company, 1845-58, addressed to him; bundles of sermon notes, 1817-61 ; two note-books containing a record of subscriptions towards the support of the ministry at Bethesda Church, Gower, 1838-43; a manuscript volume described on the title-page as `A Series of Questions and Answers on the more prominent doctrines of the Holy Bible written for the use of the Sabbath Schools belonging to Burry Green and Cherriton Chaples (sic) by Rev. Wm. Griffiths, Resident Minister (copied and written in this book by Rev. W. Ford). , and inscribed on the outside cover `Subjects That have been repeated by the Schools belonging to Bethesda Chaple (sic)' (this volume is possibly partly in the hand of Rev W. Ford and partly in that of Rev W. Griffiths); and an incomplete English translation ? by, and in the hand of, Rev W. Griffiths, of Robert Jones: Drych yr Amseroedd. Also twenty letters, 1854-82, addressed mainly to William Griffiths [son of Rev William Griffiths] at Aberaeron, and an account book, 1849-55, relating to the said William Griffiths's business at Aberaeron. A miscellaneous collection of books in English and Welsh (Dept of Printed Books), including Juvenile Missionary Magazine (1854-62); D. Fenning, The Royal English Dictionary, 2nd. ed., (1763); and William Fry, A New Vocabulary of the most difficult words in the English language (1784). An inscribed silver salver (hall mark:- London - 1930) presented to Mrs. T. Z. Jones, J.P., in appreciation of her services as Matron of the Theological College, Aberystwyth, 1906-1930 (Dept of Pictures and Maps). The salver is engraved also with the signatures of Owen Prys (Principal) and others. Numerous copies of a lithograph portrait of Rev William Griffiths (1788-1861) of Gower, co. Glamorgan (Dept of Pictures and Maps). A collection of engraved portraits of early-nineteenth century Nonconformist ministers (Dept of Pictures and Maps). Portraits on glass of Mrs. Alicia Graciana Jones (nêe Griffiths) and of an unidentified man (Dept of Pictures and Maps). Seven unidentified carte-de- visite portrait photographs (Dept of Pictures and Maps). A `microphoren' case containing carte-de- visite photographs of `Cenhadar Hedd' and of Welsh costumes (Dept of Pictures and Maps). A reproduction of a religious print - `Suffer little children to come unto me' (Dept of Pictures and Maps). JOHN REES 1975002 Ffynhonnell / Source Mr John Rees per Mr J M. Jones, Clunderwen. Blwyddyn / Year Adroddiad Blynyddol / Annual Report 1974-75 Disgrifiad / Description A collection of English and French literary texts with imprints of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries (Dept of Printed Books). These are interesting examples of works from series then in vogue: e.g. The Leipzig Tauchritz editions, and Paul's Miniatur-Bibliothek. A feature of the collection is the number of early Travellers guides to cities in Western Europe and there are associated railway timetables and language dictionaries. The one early imprint of note is Burke's A Philosophical Enquiry into the origin of our ideas of the sublime and beautiful (London, 1770). Postcards collected by the testator during the course of his travels as a courier in Great Britain and other countries (Dept of Pictures and Maps), comprising: three albums of views in Wales; seven albums of views in England and Scotland; twenty seven albums of views in Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Norway, Spain, Switzerland; two albums of postcard reproductions of pictures in British Art Galleries ; five albums of postcard reproductions of pictures in European Art Galleries ; five albums of postcards of celebrities etc ; two large scrap-books containing coloured pictures from gardening catalogues and other publications. Montgomery, for parts of the year 1815 describing a journey to and from Bath and a stay in that town, January - May 1815, a trip to Aberhafesp [co. Montgomery], 6-8 September 1815, and an excursion to Leamington with a visit to Warwick, 21 September - 3 October 1815 (NLW MS 21448B). Blwyddyn / Year Adroddiad Blynyddol / Annual Report 1974-75 Disgrifiad / Description A typescript copy of a transcript made by the donor of the churchwardens' accounts for the parish of Holyhead, Anglesey, 1737-1889, together with an introduction (Bangor Parochial Records). With Mr. Bulmer's kind consent the Library has also been permitted to make a photocopy of the typescript of a transcript he had made of the parish registers of the church of St. Gwenfaen, Rhoscolyn, Anglesey, 1678-1841, and of the introduction and index which he had compiled (Bangor Parochial Records). Blwyddyn / Year Adroddiad Blynyddol / Annual Report 1974-75 Disgrifiad / Description A file of material, 1967-72, relating to the establishment of a Welsh Hall of Residence at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and subsequently to the proposal that Pantycelyn should become the Welsh Hall (NLW Minor Deposits 1224B). The material consists of papers put before and produced by various committees, especially the Committee on the Welsh Halls of Residence, and copies of letters and papers reflecting the opinions of various individuals and bodies concerning the matter. A file, containing mainly copies, chiefly photostats, of the replies of various museums and art galleries in Wales to a questionnaire sent out by the Standing Commission on Museums and Galleries in the course of its Review of Provincial Museums and Galleries, together with some additional information such as statements of accounts or printed guides which some institutions enclosed with their replies (NLW Minor Deposits 1225B). They are accompanied by a letter, 20 November 1961, from Miss Armide Oppê, Secretary to the Commission, to Dr. Elwyn Davies, concerning some of the museums. Chapel, London, for the year 1900 and the first four days of 1901, recording church matters and details of family life, and ending with the record of the death and funeral of his wife Margaret [nêe Ellis], (1860-1900), together with a letter written by him to her, dated 20 September 1882 (NLW MS 21444A).
