Partly copies. Partly typewritten, signed and printed. The collection includes papers of government, ecclesiastical and educational commissions and committees on which Mansbridge served, material relating to the foundation of the W.E.A. in 1903 and its subsequent expansion in England and overseas, and to other organisations founded by Mansbridge, the National Central Library (1916), the World Association for Adult Education (1918), the Seafarers' Education Service (1919), and the British Institute of Adult Education (1921). Mansbridge's research, publications and lectures are represented by drafts, notes and correspondence, including material assembled for a projected biography of his personal friend, Charles Gore, Bishop of Oxford. Amongst the family papers are illustrated journals kept by his son, the artist John Mansbridge, as a child. The Mansbridge Papers were formerly held by the National Central Library which, in 1973, joined with the library departments of the British Museum, the National Lending Library for Science and Technology and subsequently the British National Bibliography to form the British Library. They were transferred to the Department of Manuscripts in 1976 and incorporated in Oct. 1988. Paper. One hundred and seventy-four volumes. British Library arrangement. A. At the heart of our vision we discern a call to become a more Christ-like Church for the sake of God’s world: contemplative, compassionate and courageous. We continue to emphasise the broader diplomatic function that art can play by selecting works that link Britain with the rest of the world in embassies and diplomatic buildings abroad, which this year included Copenhagen, Cairo and Moscow. Acquisitions Outset/Government Art Collection Fund This year saw the establishment of a new partnership, the Outset/ Government Art Collection Fund. Founded in 2003, Outset is an independent international organisation that supports new art within the public arena through private funding. The aim of the Fund is to add 12 important new works of art to the Collection over three years. The first work given to the GAC as a result of the Fund was a large-scale photograph by Isaac Julien, followed by an acrylic painting on vintage textile by Shezad Dawood. Aside from the Outset/GAC Fund acquisitions, other new works were acquired, including an abstract painting by the late Jon Thompson, an oil painting by Dexter Dalwood and a portfolio of 20 prints including Gillian Ayres, Gordon Cheung and Howard Hodgkin. We also purchased a rare historical portrait of King Henry VIII by an Unknown 16th-Century Anglo-Flemish artist.

    TOTNES MISSION COMMUNITY Appointment of Team Rector January 2020 AN INTRODUCTION TO he Benefice of Totnes with T Bridgetown, Ashprington, Berry Pomeroy Brooking, Cornworthy Dartington, Marldon and Stoke Gabriel. A note from the Archdeacon Every place is special in its own way, but the ancient market town of Totnes and the beautiful South Hams of Devon in which it is set are exceptional. Both the town itself, with its distinguished history and considerable present interest, and the rural communities surrounding it offer an unusually rich and varied cultural life, from the firmly traditional to the decidedly unconventional. Totnes has long been a centre for those seeking forms of spirituality and lifestyle alternative to the mainstream, at the same time retaining all the inherited elements of a fine old West Country market town. With Dartington Hall, Schumacher College, the Sharpham Estate, and other local organisations operating in the area of the benefice, the range of cultural and educational opportunities on offer locally is high, drawing people to Totnes from across the country and beyond. The villages are home to a mix of incomers and those with local roots. There are areas of great wealth within the benefice, and also areas of severe poverty and social deprivation. In all this, the churches of the benefice demonstrate a clear and increasing engagement with their vocation to grow in prayer, make disciples, and serve the people of their communities with joy. The person called to be the next Team Rector will need to demonstrate the capacity to exercise strong, clear, loving leadership in mission and service, working with a gifted and motivated team of colleagues to develop and implement the impressive action plan to which the churches are committed.
