Thomas Kronenberger Präsident Bund Deutscher Zupfmusiker e.V. 1 Grußwort/Greeting Welcome to the “BDZ eurofestival zupfmusik 2018“! Two years of preparation on the board of the Bund Deutscher Zupfmusiker e.V. (BDZ) are behind us and now I am looking forward with my BDZ team to 4 exciting and musically outstanding days in Bruchsal. The decades-long tradition of the federal music festivals is for many plucked string musicians from all over the world perso- nal participation the highlight of their planning. The finances must be checked and increased, players plan their vacation accordingly, literature is selected and the travel planning with hotels as well as bus-train-flight is tackled. Every four years this happens to the management team of the “BDZ eurofestival zupfmusik“ as well. Only the dimensions are completely different. So that over 1,300 musicians from all parts of the world can present themselves and feel comfortable, we have put together 25 concerts for the participants and visitors. In the Bürgerzentrum, the headquarters in 2018, the Stadtkirche, on the Open Air stage at the Holzmarkt and in the beautiful Barockschloss in Bruchsal, we will make the city full of sound. In the Bürgerzentrum (civic centre) we have set up the “Infotheke“ (information counter) for you. Here you can always get information and help with your questions during the festival. We would also like to welcome you as a new BDZ member, whether as an individual, ensemble or orchestra. From home or abroad, you are all welcome to us and the BDZ team will gladly explain the benefits of a BDZ membership. Many publishers, music dealers and instrument makers are on site. They wait impatiently and with a lot of suspense for us plucked string musicians and present their brought along goods. Take the time and use this unique opportunity of “brow- sing“ and “trying it out“. In the Bürgerzentrum and in the Rathaus of the city of Bruchsal (city hall) you will find our 40 exhibitors. The BDZ Jugendbeirat (Youth Council) invites again this year in the youth tent in the park behind the Bürgerzentrum. Andreas Lorson and his youth advisory team have come up with many things to offer young participants a chance to meet, network, move or even relax. Curious? Well then – open up and make contacts with like-minded people, try juggling, board games or the bouncy castle! In addition, we will give exciting workshops and lectures. There are interesting literature from the Landesverbände (state associations) of the BDZ as well as information about the work of the Bundesjugendbeirat (Federal Youth Advisory Board). We are always looking for young musicians who are involved with us for the mandolin and guitar in Germany. Are you interested? Next to the youth tent you will find our catering tent. Here we offer you, in the price of the festival ticket already included, delicious lunch and dinner. Enjoy the freshly prepared food from Grunder Gourmet Catering from the Saarland in the circle of music lovers. I thank all those involved who have brought this festival to life. The city of Bruchsal, especially Mr Thomas Adam, for their great on-site support. The exhibitors, the many helpers in the run-up and, of course, all BDZ Eurofestival team members. A great team, characterized by collegial collaboration and the will to offer something special, has taken time and time again and freed up many thousands of hours.
