E-mail: [email protected] 3Corresponding author Abstract Rhodeus albomarginatus, new species, is described from the Lvjiang River, a tributary flowing into Poyang Lake of Yang- tze River basin, in Anhui Province, China. It is distinguished from all congeneric species by unique combination of char- acters: branched dorsal-fin rays 10; branched anal-fin rays 10–11; longest simple rays of dorsal and anal fins strong and stiff, distally segmented; pelvic fin rays i 6; longitudinal scale series 34–36; transverse scale series 11; pored scales 4–7; vertebrae 33–34; colour pattern of adult males (iris black, belly reddish-orange, central part of caudal fin red, dorsal and anal fins of males edged with white margin). Key words: Cyprinidae, Rhodeus albomarginatus, new species, Yangtze River, China Introduction Bitterling belong to the subfamily Acheilognathinae in Cyprinidae and include three genera, Acheilognathus, Rhodeus and Tanakia. The genus Rhodeus can be distinguished from the other two genera by having an incomplete lateral line, no barbels, and wing-like yolk sac projections in larvae (Arai & Akai, 1988). -

(2006): “Puntius snyderi is a freshwater cyprinid fish discovered by Oshima when he collected the freshwater fishes in Taiwan in 1915-1917. It was mainly distributed in northern and central Taiwan [Oshima 1919] […].” From Chang et al. (2009): “A similar inference was also proposed for Puntius snyderi and P. semifasciolatus in which P. snyderi is a species endemic to Taiwan and P. semifasciolatus is distributed in both China and Taiwan (Chang et al. 2006). These 2 species were proposed to have differentiated in China. After P. snyderi and P. semifasciolatus dispersed to Taiwan, P. snyderi became extinct in China (Chang et al. 2006).” 1 Chen et al. (2013) list Puntius snyderi as previously present on Kinmen Island, Taiwan but that it is currently locally extinct there. Status in the United States No records of Puntius snyderi in the wild or in trade in the United States were found. (2019), Puntius snyderi (Oshima 1919) is the current valid and original name of this species. Rivers in the Japanese archipelago, separated from the continent of Asia by about 17 Ma, have experienced an intermittent exchange of freshwater fish taxa through a narrow land bridge generated by lowered sea level. As the Korean Peninsula and Japanese archipelago were not covered by an ice sheet during glacial periods, phylogeographical analyses in this region can trace the history of biota that were, for a long time, beyond the last glacial maximum. In this study, we analyzed the phylogeography of four freshwater fish taxa, Hemibarbus longirostris, dark chub Nipponocypris temminckii, Tanakia ssp. and Carassius ssp., whose distributions include both the Korean Peninsula and Western Japan. The daily periodicity of microincrements forrned with the sagittal otoliths of these two spceies has been validated by oxytetracycline marking in previous studies. These validation studies have come from fishes within three regions of the Pacific (eastem, central and western tropical Pacific). Otolith microincrements are counted along transverse section with a light microscope. -

(2007), 46:21~33 New Host Records for Lernaea cyprinacea (Copepoda), a Parasite of Freshwater Fishes, with a Checklist of the Lernaeidae in Japan (1915-2007) Kazuya Nagasawa, Akiko Inoue, Su Myat and Tetsuya Umino Graduate School of Biosphere Science, Hiroshima University 1-4-4 Kagamiyama, Higashi-Hiroshima, Hiroshima 739-8528, Japan Abstract The lernaeid copepod Lernaea cyprinacea Linnaeus, 1758, was found attached to three species of freshwater fishes, the barbell steed Hemibarbus labeo (Pallas) (Cyprinidae), the dark chub Zacco temminckii (Temminck and Schlegel) (Cyprinidae), and the Amur catfish Silurus asotus Linnaeus (Siluridae) from Hiroshima Prefecture in Japan. The findings from Hemibarbus labeo and Zacco temminckii represent new host records for L. cyprinacea, while Silurus asotus is a new host in Japan. Based on the literature published for 93 years from 1915 to 2007, a checklist of three species of lernaeid copepods (Lernaea cyprinacea, Lernaea parasiluri, Lamproglena chinensis) from Japan is given, including information on the synonym(s), host(s), site(s) of infection, and distribution. The checklist shows that in Japan L. cyprinacea has been reported from 33 or 34 species and subspecies of fishes belonging to 17 families in 10 orders and also from 2 species of amphibians from 2 families in 2 orders. The anterior part of the body of metamorphosed adult female is embedded in the host tissue, whereas the remaining body protrudes in the water. -

As a result, the highest IRI (Index of relative importance) value in M. salmoides inhibiting the stream and reservoir were identified as fishes. However, the IRI value of crustaceans and insects as well as fishes in M. salmoides inhibiting the reservoir were high, showing a difference in IRI value of M. salmoides inhibiting the stream. No characters were found which clearly confirm the specific status of R. sericeus amarus. Rhodeus colchicus, new species, is described from the rivers in West Transcaucasia, Georgia. It is distinguished from congeners by a suite of characters which includes large scales (34 to 37, commonly 35, in the lateral row), a low number of vertebrae (33 to 36, commonly 35, total, and 16 to 18, commonly 17, in the abdominal region), a deep shortened 2nd infraorbital, a broad 4th infraorbital and a well developed 5th one with a widened lamellate portion. Introduction The Amur common bitterling was described as Cyprinus sericeus by Pallas (1776) from River Onon (Upper Amur system) and the European bitterling, Cyprinus amarus, some years later by Bloch (1782) from River Elbe. They were considered to be close or conspecific by many authors, for example, Dybowski (1869, 1877) and Warpachowski (1887). The study by Svetovidov and Eremeyev (1935) showed that European and Asian bitterlings are slightly different in some characters and proposed to give them a rank of subspecies of one and the same species. -
