This exposure can lead to serious heat-related illnesses that occur when the body is no longer able to cool itself through sweating. By knowing the signs and symptoms associated with these illnesses and practicing preventative measures, you can reduce the risk of heat-related health problems. Know the Symptoms: Headaches, dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting. Weakness and moist skin. Mood changes such as irritability or confusion. Upset stomach, thirst, or vomiting. Protect Yourself: Drink plenty of fluids. Maintain normal salt intake. Wear light-colored clothing. Avoid drinks with caffeine. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. The Postal Service™ is committed to ensuring that all employees work as safely as possible. Remember the heat equation: High Temperature + High Humidity + Physical Work = Potential Heat Illness Beat the heat! — Safety and Health, Employee Resource Management, 8-11-11 4 postal bulletin 22317 (8-11-11) Cover Story Policies, Procedures, and Forms Updates postal bulletin 22317 (8-11-11) 5 Policies, Procedures, and Forms Updates Manuals DMM Revision: Standard Mail Nonmachinable Letter Preparation Effective August 1, 2011, the Postal Service™ revised for a 3-digit ZIP Code prepared in 3-digit trays (and over- Mailing Standards of the United States Postal Service, flow pieces in ADC or MADC trays) under 245.5.0.
