Ultra-Runners Ida Nilsson and Mimmi Kotka Are the New Ambassadors of Swedish Outdoor Brand SILVA Superswede Ida Nilsson during the skyrunning race Zegama-Aizkorri in 2018, which she won. Jun 19, 2018 08:15 GMT Ultra-runners Ida Nilsson and Mimmi Kotka are the new ambassadors of Swedish outdoor brand SILVA The Swedish brand SILVA works closely with their ambassadors. The ambassadors test SILVA’s products in the toughest of conditions and are an invaluable resource in the product development process. SILVA has recently added two new athletes to their team of ambassadors, the top runners Ida Nilsson and Mimmi Kotka, both from Sweden. SILVA ambassadors are the perfect mix of runners, orienteers, adventurers, skiers and multi-athletes, such as: skyrunner and ski-mountaineer Emelie Forsberg, ultra-trail runner Francois D’haene, elite orienteer Tove Alexandersson, adventure racing-team Team Haglöfs SILVA and the Norwegian cross-country skiing team. New addition to the team of ambassadors are Ida Nilsson, Swedish ultra-trail runner and the recent winner of the classic skyrunning competition Zegama- Aizkorri. “I'm very excited to start working with SILVA since I like their products and it's a Swedish brand. My first headlamp was a SILVA headlamp and I used it a lot when I spent an entire winter in the northern part of Sweden, Abisko, since almost all training I did was in the dark”, says Ida Nilsson about the new cooperation with SILVA. SILVA has also signed with the ultra-trail runner Mimmi Kotka from Sweden, who won the Mont-Blanc 80 km marathon in 2017. “As a Swede you associate SILVA with quality outdoor equipment, it’s just one of those classic outdoor brands that’s been around 'forever' doing their thing and doing it well. SILVA has quality headlamps with great performance and they are lightweight. This is important to me since I do a lot of night running and racing in exposed environments. I’m stoked to be associated with SILVA and look forward to a great collaboration”, says Mimmi Kotka. ABOUT IDA NILSSON Winning the Transvulcania ultramarathon has started to become a routine for Ida Nilsson, having secured her third gold medal in a row. Before an injury, she competed and won several national championship medals in athletics. In 2016, Ida won the Marathon du Mont Blanc in Chamonix, France and one year later she set a new course record in the Swedish race Ultravasan. In 2018, Ida won the international skyrunning competition “Zegama-Aizkorri”, strengthening her position as one of the top runners in the world. ABOUT MIMMI KOTKA From having no athlectic experience to becoming a world championship runner in five years, the ultra-trail runner and nutritionist Mimmi Kotka has quickly climbed her way to the top. Her biggest merits so far are winning the Ultra-Trail Courmayeur-Champex-Chamonix (UTMB-CCC) and the Ultra-Trail Sur les Traces des Ducs de Savoie (UTMB-TDS), where she also has the new course record. One great invention. In 1933, Björn, Alvar and Arvid Kjellström invented the first ever liquid-filled compass, and our story began. Not only was it the first compass of its kind, but it also set the global standard for how navigation works. The SILVA brand was born. A few years later, in 1935, we expanded our business with our new invention, and first headlamp, Zeiler. We have since then continued to evolve and set trends for outdoor equipment. Seven mountain runners participated in this study. They competed in vertical (VR), 10-25 km, 25-45 km and >45 km races. The HR response was measured during the races to calculate the exercise intensity and PL according to the HR at which both the ventilatory (VT) and respiratory compensation threshold (RCT) occurred. The exercise intensity below VT and between VT and RCT increased with mountain running race distance. Likewise, the percentage of racing time spent above RCT decreased when race duration increased. However, the time spent above RCT was similar between races (~50 min). The PL was significantly higher (p<.05) during the longest races (145.0±18.4, 288.8±72.5, 467.3±109.9 and 820.8±147.0 AU in VR, 10-25 km, 25-45 km and >45 km, respectively). The ratio of PL to accumulative altitude gain was similar in all races (~0.16 AU·m-1).

  • Physiological Determinants of Ultramarathon Trail-Running Performance
International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance, (Ahead of Print) https://doi.org/10.1123/ijspp.2020-0766 © 2021 Human Kinetics, Inc. ORIGINAL INVESTIGATION Physiological Determinants of Ultramarathon Trail-Running Performance Alexandra M. Coates, Jordan A. Berard, Trevor J. King, and Jamie F. Burr Context: The physiological determinants of ultramarathon success have rarely been assessed and likely differ in their contributions to performance as race distance increases. Purpose: To examine predictors of performance in athletes who completed either a 50-, 80-, or 160-km trail race over a 20-km loop course on the same day. Methods: Measures of running history, aerobic fitness, running economy, body mass loss, hematocrit alterations, age, and cardiovascular health were examined in relation to race-day performance. Performance was defined as the percentage difference from the winning time at a given race distance, with 0% representing the fastest possible time. Results: In the 50-km race, training volumes, cardiovascular health, aerobic fitness, and a greater loss of body mass during the race were all related to better performance (all P < .05). Using multiple linear regression, peak velocity achieved in the maximal oxygen uptake test (β = −11.7, P = .002) and baseline blood pressure (β =3.1,P = .007) were the best performance predictors for the men’s 50-km race (r =.98,r2 = .96, P < .001), while peak velocity achieved in the maximal oxygen uptake test (β = −13.6, P = .001) and loss of body mass (β =12.8,P = .03) were the best predictors for women (r = .94, r2 = .87, P =.001).Inthe 80-km race, only peak velocity achieved in the maximal oxygen uptake test predicted performance (β = −20.3, r = .88, r2 = .78, P < .001).
