The regular meeting of the Warrior Run School District Board of Education was held on Monday, November 21, 2011, at 7:00 PM in the Warrior Run Middle School Library with Mr. Todd P. Moser, president, presiding. Other members present were Mr. David J. Baker, Mrs. Tamela Chomas, Mrs. Vicki A. Egli, Mr. Norman D. Eisley, Jr., Mr. William R. Hartline, Mr. Lyle W. Horn, Mr. Herman A. Swartz, and Mr. Douglas L. Whitmoyer. Others present were John Kurelja, superintendent of schools; Linda McNeal, business manager/board secretary; Gregory Alico, Technology Coordinator; Douglas Bertanzetti, assistant high school Principal; Bernadette Boerckel, Director of Curriculum and Instruction; Patricia Cross, high school principal; Warrior Run School District residents, students and media. The meeting was opened with the Pledge to the Flag, followed by roll call of the members. (ROLL CALL FORM #1) A motion was made by William Hartline, seconded by Vicki Egli and unanimously approved by roll call vote to approve payment of the total expenditures per the attached List of Payments, dated November 16, 2011, in the amount of $1,506,831.97 for November expenditures; List of Cafeteria Fund Payments, dated November 16, 2011, in the amount of $73,067.53 for November expenditures; WRSD Capital Reserve Program Cash Position and Current Bills, dated November 16, 2011, the balance being $214,425.23; WRSD Renovation Program Cash Position and Current Bills, dated October 24, 2011, the balance being $0.00; Income Reports dated November 16, 2011; Cash Positions dated November 16, 2011; and the Finance Statement dated November 16, 2011. Copies included. (ROLL CALL FORM #2) President Moser congratulated the Girls’ Soccer champions for their second year as State Champions. Mrs. Cross also spoke to the compliments she received for our students on and off the team. Warrior Run was well represented at the game and both the board and administration expressed how proud they were of the students. A motion was made by David Baker, seconded by Douglas Whitmoyer and unanimously approved by roll call vote to approve the minutes for the October 24, 2011 regular meeting. (ROLL CALL FORM #3) A motion was made by Vicki Egli, seconded by David Baker and unanimously approved by roll call vote to approve the minutes for the November 14, 2011 worksession. (ROLL CALL FORM #4) Dr. Kurelja presented Certificates of Achievement for eight years of service on the Board to Herman Swartz, David Baker and Vicki Egli. Shelly Ritter, representing the CSIU, presented David Baker with a parting gift for eight years of service on the CSIU board. The Superintendent and Board wished Mr. Baker good luck with his future endeavors as he leaves the board. A motion was made by Douglas Whitmoyer, seconded by Herman Swartz and unanimously approved by voice vote to approve the letter of resignation from Donna M. Mulkusky, classroom aide assigned to Turbotville Elementary School, effective immediately. (VOICE VOTE) Page 2 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE WARRIOR RUN SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION HELD MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2011 A motion was made by Douglas Whitmoyer, seconded by David Baker and unanimously approved to by roll call vote to approve the employment of Tyler Aderhold as a second shift custodian assigned to the high school, effective November 22, 2011. Mr. Aderhold’s hourly rate will be set at $9.35. (ROLL CALL FORM #5) A motion was made by Douglas Whitmoyer, seconded by David Baker and unanimously approved by roll call vote to approve the employment of the following individuals: • Becky Heddings – promoted from server/dishwasher assigned to the high school to a cafeteria helper assigned to the high school, effective immediately. This is a 4 ½ hour per day, 181 days per school year position at her current hourly rate of $7.50 per hour. • Wanda Stine – as a server/dishwasher assigned to the high school, effective November 29, 2011. Mrs. Stine will be paid at an hourly rate of $7.50 for this 2 hour per day, 181 days per school year position. (ROLL CALL FORM #6) A motion was made by Vicki Egli, seconded by Herman Swartz and unanimously approved by roll call vote to approve a request to employ Matthew Godfrey at a rate of $25.00 per hour to provide athletic trainer coverage for junior high girls’ basketball, junior high boys’ basketball and junior high wrestling during the 2011/2012 winter season. (ROLL CALL FORM #7) A motion was made by Douglas Whitmoyer, seconded by William Hartline and unanimously approved by roll call vote to approve the following individuals to serve as coaches for the 2011/2012 season pending receipt of current clearances. Jr High (7th Grade) Boys’ Basketball “ (ROLL CALL FORM #8) A motion was made by Tamela Chomas, seconded by Vicki Egli and unanimously approved by voice vote that Stacy Balliet serve as a volunteer swim coach and Richard Shamburg serve as a volunteer working with the girls’ basketball program for the 2011/2012 season. Instructional - The day to day rate for the instructional substitute is $80.00 per day. Mrs. Velte is planning on returning to her position on or about Monday, March 5, 2012. (ROLL CALL FORM #9) A motion was made by David Baker, seconded by Vicki Egli and motion carried with eight yes votes (Douglas Whitmoyer, David Baker, Tamela Chomas, Vicki Egli, Norman Eisley, William Hartline, Lyle Horn and Todd Moser) and one no vote (Herman Swartz) to approve the Course Selection Handbook for the 2012/2013 school term as presented at the November 14, 2011 Work Session. (ROLL CALL FORM #10) A motion was made by Vicki Egli, seconded by Douglas Whitmoyer and unanimously approved by roll call vote to approve delinquent tax exemptions for personal taxes as submitted. (ROLL CALL FORM #11) A motion was made by David Baker, seconded by Douglas Whitmoyer and unanimously approved by roll call vote to approve tax exemptions for 2011 personal taxes as presented. (ROLL CALL FORM #12) Page 4 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE WARRIOR RUN SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION HELD MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2011 A motion was made by Douglas Whitmoyer, seconded by Tamela Chomas and unanimously approved by roll call vote to approve the daily rates for bus contractors for the 2010/11 school year as follows: Contractor 2010/11 Daily 20/11/12 Daily Mincemoyer School Bus Service $ 2,631.96 $ 2,824.26 Murray Transportation Inc. 624.65 660.51 Hagerman School Bus Service 751.87 612.18 Daily Total $ 4,008.48 $ 4,096.95 (ROLL CALL FORM #13) A motion was made by William Hartline, seconded by Lyle Horn and unanimously approved by roll call vote to approve the following new policies: • Policy No. 210.1, Possession/Use of Asthma Inhalers/Epinephrine Auto-Injectors. • Policy No. 718, Service Animals in School (ROLL CALL FORM #14) A motion was made by Vicki Egli, seconded by David Baker and unanimously approved by roll call vote to approve the following revised policies: • Policy No. 004 – Membership • Policy No. 008 – Organization Chart • Policy No. 203 – Communicable Diseases and Immunization • Policy No. 601 – Fiscal Objectives • Policy No. 619 – District Audit • Policy No. 904 – Public Attendance at School Events (ROLL CALL FORM #15) Page 5 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE WARRIOR RUN SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION HELD MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2011 A motion was made by Herman Swartz, seconded by Douglas Whitmoyer and unanimously approved by voice vote to approve the request of Albert Mabus and Max McCarty, on behalf of the Warrior Run Mat Club, for use of the middle school and high school gymnasiums and locker rooms for three (3) Elementary Wrestling Scrimmages and their Elementary Wrestling Tournament. Scrimmages will be held from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM and the tournament will be held from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on the following dates: Sunday, January 22 2012 – Scrimmage Sunday, January 29, 2012 – Scrimmage Sunday, February 19, 2012 – Tournament Sunday, March 18, 2012 – Scrimmage Approval is also granted for Mr. Mabus and Mr. McCarty for use of the middle school cafeteria on Sunday, February 26, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM to hold the Warrior Run Mat Clubs annual Elementary Awards Pot Luck Supper. All rental fees are waived. (VOICE VOTE) A motion was made by Vicki Egli, seconded by Douglas Whitmoyer and motion carried with eight yes voice votes (Lyle Horn, Todd Moser, Herman Swartz, David Baker, Tamela Chomas, Vicki Egli, Norman Eisley and William Hartline) and one no voice vote (David Baker) to approve the request of Lisa Hemrick and Missy Rohm, on behalf of the Warrior Run Football Booster Club, for use of the high school gymnasium and locker rooms on Saturday, March 24, 2012 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM to hold a “Donkey Basketball” fundraiser with rental fees waived.
