Geisinger Athletic Trainer, Matt Splitt will be in the District every day to serve the student athletes and help them recover from injuries they may have sustained including ankle sprains and rehab treatments for ACL tears. Matt will also be on-call for athletic games and events. Mr. Splitt was previously a student in the Shikellamy School District and then attended college at Penn State University. He brings the knowledge and experience he gained while working as a Physical Therapy Assistant at Penn State. He worked with athletes in fencing, men’s volleyball, women’s lacrosse and for the Penn State Football Team this past fall. Matt enjoyed the opportunity he had to intern with the Pittsburgh Steelers during their 2018 Pre-Season Training Camp. He was ecstatic to be invited back to work an in-season game as well. Matt is excited for the opportunity to be working here in our District, as well as, with many healthcare professionals. He indicated an app called Tiger Text allows for communication between himself and the treating physicians of injured student athletes. We are excited to have him here in our District and look forward to the collaboration with Geisinger to better care for our student athletes. 2 Mifflinburg Area School District September 3, 2019 Mr. Stenger Awarded “Outstanding Educator” Congratulations to our very own Mr. Emil Stenger who was awarded the Outstanding Educator Award by the Union County Conservation District for all of his efforts and hard work with our students during the High School and Middle School Envirothon! There were many additions including flex tables which can be grouped together to accommodate various group sizes to collaborate on projects or assignments. There is a small section of comfort seating which is a perfect place for students to sit back and read. There are also high-top tables which seem to be the teachers’ favorite so far because they can sit higher up and monitor their students while in the library media center while still giving them space to work independently. And last, but certainly not least, are the addition of wiggle stools. Wiggle stools are currently used for the seating at the desktop computer section of the library media center, and the students are loving them. The base is convex so you can sway or wiggle while seated. Mrs. Tressler indicated how great they are for allowing students to work and move around and get out that kinetic energy all at the same time. The Middle School Library Media Center is open from 7:15 A.M. through 4:00 P.M. After school homework help is available from 2:45 P.M.– 3:45 P.M. with parental permission through a sign-up form. And students are welcome to utilize the library media center during their W.I.N. time as well.
