FIRST-AID MEASURES First Aid Measures General Advice Provide this SDS to medical personnel for treatment. Eye Contact Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Get medical aid immediately. Skin Contact Get medical aid immediately. Flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Wash clothing before reuse. Inhalation Get medical aid immediately. Remove from exposure and move to fresh air immediately. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Ingestion Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical aid immediately. Do NOT induce vomiting. If conscious and alert, rinse mouth and drink 2-4 cupfuls of milk or water. Most important symptoms and effects Symptoms Eye: Causes eye irritation. Skin: Causes skin irritation. Ingestion: May cause gastrointestinal irritation with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Inhalation: Causes irritation of the mucous membrane and upper respiratory tract. Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed Notes to Physician Treat symptomatically and supportively. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Page 2 / 7 Revision Date: 22-Oct-2013 NC-019 - Calcium formate, 98% _____________________________________________________________________________________________ 5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES Suitable Extinguishing Media In case of fire, use carbon dioxide, dry chemical powder or appropriate foam. Unsuitable Extinguishing Media Not determined. Specific Hazards Arising from the Chemical Product is not flammable or combustible. Hazardous Combustion Products During a fire, irritating and highly toxic gases may be generated by thermal decomposition or combustion. Protective equipment and precautions for firefighters As in any fire, wear self-contained breathing apparatus pressure-demand, MSHA/NIOSH (approved or equivalent) and full protective gear. 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures Personal Precautions Wear protective clothing as described in Section 8 of this safety data sheet. Ensure adequate ventilation. Environmental Precautions See Section 12 for additional Ecological Information. Methods and material for containment and cleaning up Methods for Containment Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Methods for Clean-Up Avoid creating dust. Clean up spills immediately. Sweep up, then place into a suitable container for disposal. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Precautions for safe handling Advice on Safe Handling Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Keep container tightly closed. Avoid ingestion and inhalation. Use with adequate ventilation. Wear eye/face protection. Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities Storage Conditions Store in a tightly closed container. Store in a cool, dry area away from incompatible substances. Incompatible Materials Strong oxidizing agents. 8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION Exposure Guidelines The following information is given as general guidance Appropriate engineering controls Engineering Controls Facilities storing or utilizing this material should be equipped with an eyewash facility and a safety shower. Use adequate ventilation to keep airborne concentrations low. _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Page 3 / 7 Revision Date: 22-Oct-2013 NC-019 - Calcium formate, 98% _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Individual protection measures, such as personal protective equipment Eye/Face Protection Wear appropriate protective eyeglasses or chemical safety goggles as described by OSHA's eye and face protection regulations in 29 CFR 1910.133 or European Standard EN166. Skin and Body Protection Wear appropriate protective gloves / clothing to prevent skin exposure. Respiratory Protection A respiratory protection program that meets OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.134 and ANSI Z88.2 requirements or European Standard EN 149 must be followed whenever workplace conditions warrant respirator use.
