[email protected] Notts County Ladies FC are excited to announce the triple signing of Dunia Susi, Katie Holtham and Rachel Unitt as well as striker Caitlin Friend. Full back Dunia Susi had previously represented England at Under 19 and Under 23 level, before making her full debut in 2009 against Iceland. After impressing with England, Dunia was called into the Great Britain squad for the 2012 London Olympics as the team reached the quarter finals. After starting her career at Arsenal, Susi moved to fellow London club Chelsea, where she spent four years before moving to Birmingham Ladies for the inaugural FA Women’s Super League season. The defender spent one year at the Blues before joining back up with Chelsea Ladies for the 2012 and 2013 FA WSL season before now securing her move to Notts County Ladies. Manager Rick Passmoor said on the move, “Dunia’s versatility as a footballer is a very valuable asset for this football club and being able to bring her to train full time means she is only going to improve as a footballer.”It’s an exciting time for this football club, adding another international player, further shows our intent for this season coming and the seasons after that.” Katie Holtham, who originates from Nottingham, has signed for Rick Passmoor’s team, linking up with the manager for a second time. -

During Scottish football’s formative years, however, the ascendancy of the Old Firm was far from set in stone. The exhaustive study of these two extraordinary organisations, therefore, greatly distorts our understanding of Scottish football’s Victorian origins. Both clubs were part of a far greater scene which included not only fellow ‘senior’, well-established clubs, but also any number of ‘junior’, ‘juvenile’ and non-classified football clubs, as well as fledgling associations which oversaw the regulation of the young game. -

When I started researching the early Falkirk FC matches I thought I was doing it to clear muddy water about the origin of the club. Of course all I did was end up muddying the water more. The problem of the 1876 or 1877 origin will never go away until John Fleming [the First Club Secretary] rises from the dead and tells us personally, somehow I think we'll be waiting a while for that one. Anyway, I just looked up some old newspapers [quite a lot actually] and this is the end-result. [Alright there was some fumbling with the old censuses etc. too] I am not trying to claim that this is the entire record of Falkirk FC matches and players in the period up to 1891, I can't even garuantee that it's all true as I wasn't there, these are just the things about which I have found some form of contemporary documentary evidence. People make mistakes and newspapers make mistakes: people write newspapers, so there will be mistakes herein [some of them mine]. However that is the beauty of history: it is always subject to revision, and all the time new sources of information come to light. This is published for free on the net. It wouldn't hurt anyone to attribute any info gleaned from it to the proper source, so please don't abuse it.
