Austin McCann has signed from Ayr United and he looks like he could add some real quality to the team, not to mention the experience and professionalism he’ll bring to the dressing room. Liam Campbell has returned to the club and as he continues to gain experience, I’m sure he’ll push Robert hard for the gloves. Mikey Morris has returned after spending parts of last season gaining experience on loan at Cambuslang and Bellshill where reports suggest he done well during both spells. We also have brought in Ciaran McElroy, Marc Russell and Craig McCready from the under 21 ranks and all three have ability and the potential to make an impact on the squad despite their lack of experience at Junior level. Tonight’s friendly against Dumbarton will be our first home game of the new season but it will also provide a huge test for some of our players. If we’re giving an honest assessment of the game at their ground last sea- son, it showed that there was a significant gulf in quality between both teams (which is understandable) and if anything the Sons have improved again since Ian Murray took over the reins. As I’ve indicated, apart from our new signing Austin McCann, we generally have a young squad and that includes a number of new faces who only months ago were playing at under 21 juvenile football level. There- fore it should be a good chance for the young guys not only to play against a team from a much higher level but from a personal point of view, they should get a chance to gauge the difference in fitness and sharpness levels.

  • Reframing Scottish Football: Strategy and the Short-Term Nature of the Football Industry
Edinburgh Napier University Business School Reframing Scottish Football: Strategy and the short-term nature of the football industry Stephen Robertson Doctor of Business Administration A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of Edinburgh Napier University, for the award of Doctor of Business Administration July 2015 “In human behavior there was always uncertainty and risk. The goal of the Oakland front office was simply to minimize the risk. Their solution wasn’t perfect, it was just better than the hoary alternative, rendering decisions by gut feeling.” Lewis (2011 p.136) Abstract Despite football being deeply entrenched in Scottish culture it is under- researched from a business perspective. This research develops a conceptual framework that views professional football clubs from a number of different perspectives. It draws on strategic management literature since this views the firm as the intersection between internal competence, customer perception and competition within an industry. A review of previous sports business research highlighted five main themes that were used to create a structure for the analysis: on-field performance, attendance, finance, the playing squad and the manager. These themes were used as frames to view the firms within the industry from a number of different perspectives. Each frame allows a different aspect of the firm to be considered singly in turn and then collectively to develop a deeper understanding of the existing frames in use within the industry. The research is based on a pragmatic philosophy that allows mixed methods to be combined to provide both an objective and subjective view of the industry. The subjective view was drawn from five interviews with senior figures within Scottish professional football.

[email protected] Notts County Ladies FC are excited to announce the triple signing of Dunia Susi, Katie Holtham and Rachel Unitt as well as striker Caitlin Friend. Full back Dunia Susi had previously represented England at Under 19 and Under 23 level, before making her full debut in 2009 against Iceland. After impressing with England, Dunia was called into the Great Britain squad for the 2012 London Olympics as the team reached the quarter finals. After starting her career at Arsenal, Susi moved to fellow London club Chelsea, where she spent four years before moving to Birmingham Ladies for the inaugural FA Women’s Super League season. The defender spent one year at the Blues before joining back up with Chelsea Ladies for the 2012 and 2013 FA WSL season before now securing her move to Notts County Ladies. Manager Rick Passmoor said on the move, “Dunia’s versatility as a footballer is a very valuable asset for this football club and being able to bring her to train full time means she is only going to improve as a footballer.”It’s an exciting time for this football club, adding another international player, further shows our intent for this season coming and the seasons after that.” Katie Holtham, who originates from Nottingham, has signed for Rick Passmoor’s team, linking up with the manager for a second time.
