DESCRIPTION Lillyhorn Farm is located in a sublime position with picturesque views across an unspoilt valley. In the distance is the hamlet of Bournes Green and across the field is the village of Oakridge Lynch. The property is one of three house in Lillyhorn, Lillyhorn House and Lillyhorn Cottage being the other two. The property comprises an 18th century farmhouse which is full of character and period features, a self contained cottage/studio, outbuildings, stable yard, land and woodland, a perfect mix for the country loving buyer who may have equestrian or livestock interests. Alternatively the land can continue to be let on grazing license with the owner enjoying the peace and wildlife that the property offers. The outbuildings could fulfil a number of different requirements. The house itself is built of Cotswold stone with a mainly stone tiled roof. It is laid out to include two comfortable reception rooms, both having fireplaces with wood burning stoves, window seats and southerly aspects. The dining room is an excellent entertaining room, off the kitchen and adjacent to the garden room which overlooks the pretty garden. The kitchen itself has an Aga, peninsular bar and a separate breakfast area. Also on the ground floor is a pantry, utility room, boot room and a second cloakroom. On the first floor are the three principal bedrooms although there are two further bedrooms approached via a separate staircase, one of these rooms is currently used as a study. Each bedroom is fitted with built in wardrobes and there is plenty of storage space. There are two bathrooms and a shower room, one being en suite. A concealed staircase leads up to the attic space where there is potential for a further bedroom/playroom and a box room. It is worth noting that the property is not listed. OUTSIDE Close to the house is The Studio, a self contained cottage with a very light reception room, kitchen, bathroom and a mezzanine sleeping area. It is hidden from the house by a high beech hedge. The pretty garden is mainly enclosed by Cotswold stone walling and in addition to the areas of lawn there are colourful herbaceous borders, an Acer tree and relaxing sitting out areas and a wide flagstone terrace adjacent to the garden room. Set in the front garden is a well with hand pump. From the lane the driveway swings round to the house but also continues to the stable yard where there are three boxes, a foaling box, Dutch Barn and a range of very useful stores and workshops. An attractive covered archway leads through from the garden area to the outbuildings where there is plenty of hardstanding space. The house stands at the head of its land which principally forms the immediate valley. Near the house the land extends across to the village and has a stream trickling through its centre. On the opposite side of the lane there is about 19 acres of grazing land with wooded areas to either side. The combination of all prospects of the property make for a wonderful family home and whist being totally rural is convenient for the commuter and the local regional centre. REVIEW OF THE YEAR 2017-18 The Annual Report of Cotswold District Council COTSWOLD DISTRICT COUNCIL Welcome to Cotswold District Council’s Review of the Year for 2017-18 We have had yet another good year in 2017/18, addressing a wide range of top tasks and also achieving planned savings of over £200,000. Our success stems in part from our partnership (within the Publica Group) - with three other councils - West Oxfordshire, Forest of Dean and Cheltenham. Through working within this partnership, we managed to freeze our portion of the Council Tax bill for 2017/18 at a time when the vast majority of authorities increased costs. Previously we froze our share in 2016/17, reduced it by 5% in 2015/16, reduced it by 3% in 2014/15 and by 5% in 2013/14 . The freeze for 2017/18 meant that the actual amount being charged was lower than the figure ten years ago. In other words, the typical payment for a resident in a Band D property would have seen a real terms cut of 25% over the last six years. We have also frozen charges for car parking and garden waste collections. We can also report further progress on several flood alleviation projects in the Cotswold district. Additionally, we delivered 247 affordable homes during 2017/18, comfortably ahead of our goal of delivering a minimum of 150 homes. Thanks to the efforts of our residents we continue to achieve the highest levels of recycling in Gloucestershire (almost 60%% of all household waste is recycled, reused or composted).

  • Somerset Geology-A Good Rock Guide
SOMERSET GEOLOGY-A GOOD ROCK GUIDE Hugh Prudden The great unconformity figured by De la Beche WELCOME TO SOMERSET Welcome to green fields, wild flower meadows, farm cider, Cheddar cheese, picturesque villages, wild moorland, peat moors, a spectacular coastline, quiet country lanes…… To which we can add a wealth of geological features. The gorge and caves at Cheddar are well-known. Further east near Frome there are Silurian volcanics, Carboniferous Limestone outcrops, Variscan thrust tectonics, Permo-Triassic conglomerates, sediment-filled fissures, a classic unconformity, Jurassic clays and limestones, Cretaceous Greensand and Chalk topped with Tertiary remnants including sarsen stones-a veritable geological park! Elsewhere in Mendip are reminders of coal and lead mining both in the field and museums. Today the Mendips are a major source of aggregates. The Mesozoic formations curve in an arc through southwest and southeast Somerset creating vales and escarpments that define the landscape and clearly have influenced the patterns of soils, land use and settlement as at Porlock. The church building stones mark the outcrops. Wilder country can be found in the Quantocks, Brendon Hills and Exmoor which are underlain by rocks of Devonian age and within which lie sunken blocks (half-grabens) containing Permo-Triassic sediments. The coastline contains exposures of Devonian sediments and tectonics west of Minehead adjoining the classic exposures of Mesozoic sediments and structural features which extend eastward to the Parrett estuary. The predominance of wave energy from the west and the large tidal range of the Bristol Channel has resulted in rapid cliff erosion and longshore drift to the east where there is a full suite of accretionary landforms: sandy beaches, storm ridges, salt marsh, and sand dunes popular with summer visitors.
