Parking We all know that parking can be an issue in Kingswood but with a little thought and consideration, it need not be such a problem. Crow Meadow seems to be experiencing real problems; it is so narrow that thought should be used whenever any vehicle is parked. It is not good parking across a driveway; it is at least an inconvenience at most an offence when obstructing a pathway. KINGSWOOD HISTORICAL SOCIETY Contact Sheila Alexander, 843398 The Historical Society will be holding its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 16th November at 2pm in St Mary's Room. It is the biggest Girls’ Night Out in Gloucestershire and you are invited. This year’s theme is ‘Bling it on’, so we are expecting sequins and sparkle, from your tiara to your t-shirt and your tutu to your toes. Everybody will start the 10km walk together (9.00pm from Deer Park School in Cirencester, on Friday September 9th), after a pre-walk party and some top quality chat. You will be raising money for Longfield (formerly Cotswold care Hospice) to help people with life-limiting illness to live well and, if you raise more than £150, your entry fee will be refunded. Normal entry is £18 per person (including your t-shirt) but get a group of girls together and the sixth place is free. Bring your children aged 10 and over too, (but make sure 10-16 year-olds walk with an adult please). So register now at www.longfield.org.uk/Event/girls-night-out . You know you want to! Service 201 What is happening to this service? Will it still be running after September 4th? YES, it will be running in September and October and probably November and December without a council subsidy. After then the future depends on how many passengers use the service. Glos.C.C. has chosen to give Stagecoach £8500 to run Service 60 (only goes to Dursley) and gave nothing to the 201. After running since 1990, there is reluctance to give it up but it cannot continue at a loss. Please support the local company and keep the service running and the team of drivers employed! ST MARY'S PARISH CHURCH Donors to the Viv Kerner Memorial Fund will be glad to know that, at last, the lantern above the gate and the bench beside the path are in place. Both will serve to welcome all to St Mary’s, just as Viv always did. Later in the year there will be a special service to honour and thank everyone who made these gifts possible and to celebrate Viv’s life. Kingswood Grapevine is printed by Manor Printing in Kingswood The Annual Canvass 2016/17 During August, the Elections Team will be sending out Household Enquiry forms to 52,600 properties in the district asking residents to confirm or update their details for the electoral register, which will be republished on the 1st December 2016. The annual canvass is important because residents who are not on the register will be unable to vote in any future elections. Many people also do not realise that their credit score may be affected if they are not registered at their current address and may have difficulty obtaining credit or opening a bank account. This year residents are encouraged to respond either by telephone or text if they do not have any changes to their details or online, where changes can be made, using a unique security code To ensure as many people register as possible, legislation requires us to employ canvassers during October and November to visit those properties which have not yet returned their canvass forms. Please make sure you return your canvass form to avoid a visit! Refreshing Churches Together in Kingswood Sunday 25th September - 4pm Village Hall, Kingswood. In September 1998 the churches asked the village to share ideas about what the churches should be doing as we moved into the 21st Century. Since then both churches have been actively working together to fulfil the goals we set. On the 25th September we are asking the village to help us refresh our plans by providing an opportunity to come along to the village hall to see what we have been doing, give us feedback, and offer some fresh ideas. The afternoon is being led by Suzanne Nockels from Sheffield. Starting at 4pm and finishing just after 6pm. Displays of; • what we have done • what we might do next • the work of the individual churches A taster of Messy Church for parents and children to take part Talks – Discussion – Feedback (Videos/crafts for younger Children) A period of Worship, reflection and praise Supper (Baked potatoes – various fillings, Dessert). This is a great opportunity for you to come along to meet and make friends, share ideas and help us to shape the work of the churches in our community for the next decade. TUBBS TURF We had a lovely Finals Day on the 9th July. It was well attended, the tennis matches were tightly fought, the table tennis whizzy, the basketball challenging and the netball match great fun. The refreshments went down a treat and the country dancing by Kingswood School was very entertaining and even more so when the parents attempted to join in. Many thanks to all involved and the fantastic sponsors including: the Grapevine (helping with the programme distribution), DCL Printing, Manor Printing, Heaven of the South, Abbey Plumbing, Loxley Solicitors, Rowe Vets, B&F Fitness, Franks Garage, the Car Clinic, Chipping Manor Dental, RD Benson, Gillie Evans & Jason Boon. The day raised £642, which will help enable the facilities to be maintained and improved over the next year. If you are interested in joining or want to find out more about the facilities available and hiring of the pavilion please see our website www.tubbsturf.co.uk .If you would like to join and want a membership form, or would like to receive a copy of our regular newsletter ‘Tubbs Turf Times’ please email [email protected] Swishing The Nicola Corry Support Foundation is holding a 'Swishing' event at Kingswood Village Hall on Saturday 1st October from 10.30am- 3pm.
