KATA KUNCI: Ikan arwana, Scleropages formosus, konservasi, Danau Empangau ABSTRACT The main problems identified in decreasing of arowana population are over-exploited, habitat fragmentation and habitat degradation due to deforestation. Breeding operations as an exitu conservation and an insitu conservation could be conducted to solve those problems. The insitu conservation of red arowana (Scleropages formosus) has been done by local community around Empangau Lake, one of the natural habitats since 1980. Management of the red arowana in local and national level was reviewed based on the results of field survey and desk study. Lesson learned of community based management of red arowana is the best options for the optimal utilization and conservation of the species at their natural habitat. Abstract-The book summarizes current knowl edge of the reproductive endocrinology of fish, and applies this knowledge to a practical end: manipulation of reproduction in captive fish that are grown for food. The book is written in a deliberately "nonacademic" style and covers a wide range of topics including breed ing, manipulation of the environment to induce breed ing, conservation offish genetic resources, and techniques used for marking and tagging broodstock.

Arowana fish (Scleropages sp.) are monomorphic species, those animals that physically could not be distinguished between male and female. The research was aimed to identify and purify Vitellogenin of four variants of Asian Arowana: Banjar, Papua, Pinoh, and Super red. 12 fishes, 3 from each variant were given estradiol stimulation through toad for vitellogenin production purpose. The SDS-PAGE results expressed that there were two types of Asian Arowana vitellogenin characters, single Vtg for Arowana Banjar, Pinoh (Scleropages macrocephalus) and Super Red (Scleropages legendrei) with a molecular weight of 180 kDa and double Vtg in Papuan Arowana (Scleropages jardinii) with molecular weight 180 and 110 kDa. Pure vitellogenin has been collected from 3 varieties, Banjar, Papua, and Super red with a concentration range between 0.1 - 0.67 mg / mL. The actual concentration is believed to be greater than the measured concentration. Keywords: Asian arowana, Scleropages sp., purification, vitellogenin.
