Children's literature aims to introduce life descriptions that are meaningful to children related to their age. Through this creative imagination , children will get to know and explore their environment both in the natural and social environment in an entertaining and fun way without coercion or stating of being adjusted. Norton (2010:3) states developing positive attitudes toward our own culture and the culture of other is necessary for both social and personal development. Through a collection of children's stories with the theme of Jambinese local wisdom, language and culture in the frame of the diversity, in hopes, to introduce and build children’s attitudes to always appreciate what is in their environment. The collection of children's stories is a medium of communication with children to stimulate children’s imagination and develops a positive attitude towards their social environments; parents, teachers, brothers, sisters and their friends as instilling ethical values as the character of the Indonesian nation. Thus children's literature will provide an aesthetic experience of Jambinese local wisdom, language and culture and will stimulate intellectual and emotional responses for children through imagination in accordance with their age. Yet, much has Conservation changed in the two seemingly disparate practices over the last two decades, motivating an updated evaluation of Aquaculture the scientific evidence for how aquaculture currently impacts conservation, as well as prospects for further Ecosystem services alignment and research. Here we present a new perspective on conservation aquaculture, which we redefine as Recovery “the use of human cultivation of an aquatic organism for the planned management and protection of a natural Restoration resource.” Looking across scales of conservation aquaculture that include single species to ecosystem level benefits (and limitations), we highlight ways aquaculture has historically, and is currently being integrated into conservation (e.g., habitat restoration of oyster beds) and areas that could be improved for the protection of critical species and habitats (e.g., aquarium trade of coral reef species). With a more strategic focus, there appears to be notable conservation aquaculture potential via the cultivation of species for harvest that could provide wild harvest alleviation through replacement or supplement – particularly for over-exploited species – and/or ecosystem services, such as improved water quality and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. -

CEPF FINAL PROJECT COMPLETION REPORT I. BASIC DATA Organization Legal Name: Conservation International -- Indonesia Project Title (as stated in the grant agreement): Siberut Island Conservation Program: Building Multi-level Commitment to Conservation Implementation Partners for this Project: Project Dates (as stated in the grant agreement): April 1, 2005 - July 31, 2007 Date of Report (month/year): October 1, 2007 II. OPENING REMARKS Siberut has long been acknowledged as a conservation priority, featuring high levels of endemism (including four endemic primate species). Nearly half the island (190,500 ha) has been gazetted as a National Park, and all of Siberut has been proclaimed as a Biosphere Reserve, yet the entirety of the island remains threatened by conversion and commercial logging activities because the government perceives that biodiversity conservation is not an incentive to the regional revenue that can be brought in by development. Outside the Siberut National Park, approximately 123,000 ha of intact forest remain on the island. An active commercial timber concession (KAM) that started operating in 2001, threatens to destroy at least 50,000 ha of this remainder of this unharmed forest, and another 49,500 ha was planned to be granted to PT Salaki Summa Sejahtera (PT SSS) timber concession. After intensive advocacy and policy efforts, in May 2003, the Ministry of Forestry cancelled the preliminary permit for the Siberut logging concession held by PT SSS. Following the cancellation, we learned that PT SSS intended to appeal this decision and pursue legal action against the Ministry of Forestry, by filing a lawsuit on the grounds of procedural irregularity in the denial of the concession. -

BORNEO: Bristleheads, Broadbills, Barbets, Bulbuls, Bee-eaters, Babblers, and a whole lot more A Tropical Birding Set Departure July 1-16, 2018 Guide: Ken Behrens All photos by Ken Behrens TOUR SUMMARY Borneo lies in one of the biologically richest areas on Earth – the Asian equivalent of Costa Rica or Ecuador. It holds many widespread Asian birds, plus a diverse set of birds that are restricted to the Sunda region (southern Thailand, peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, and Borneo), and dozens of its own endemic birds and mammals. For family listing birders, the Bornean Bristlehead, which makes up its own family, and is endemic to the island, is the top target. For most other visitors, Orangutan, the only great ape found in Asia, is the creature that they most want to see. But those two species just hint at the wonders held by this mysterious island, which is rich in bulbuls, babblers, treeshrews, squirrels, kingfishers, hornbills, pittas, and much more. Although there has been rampant environmental destruction on Borneo, mainly due to the creation of oil palm plantations, there are still extensive forested areas left, and the Malaysian state of Sabah, at the northern end of the island, seems to be trying hard to preserve its biological heritage. Ecotourism is a big part of this conservation effort, and Sabah has developed an excellent tourist infrastructure, with comfortable lodges, efficient transport companies, many protected areas, and decent roads and airports. So with good infrastructure, and remarkable biological diversity, including many marquee species like Orangutan, several pittas and a whole Borneo: Bristleheads and Broadbills July 1-16, 2018 range of hornbills, Sabah stands out as one of the most attractive destinations on Earth for a travelling birder or naturalist. -

They feature prominently in folklore, mythology and other belief systems of the indigenous people of the region, and are of ecological and conservation value, some species supporting significant (albeit often illegal) economic activities (primarily, the snake-skin trade, but also sale of meat and other body parts that purportedly have medicinal properties).
