PK's Fetish Checklist Last Updated: 7/6/12 PK’s Fetish Checklist Checklists are useful ways to see what each person in a relationship is into. Sit down, together or separately, and fill this out. Be 100% honest and open; it’s the only way this will help you! This checklist is designed to help spark a discussion, not to act as the be-all, end-all of your sexual relationship. Activity: Every attempt has been made to keep these obvious and fairly universal. If there’s something specific you’re into, that’s what the Notes column is for! For example, there’s no entry for “figging” (anal play involving ginger root) on here, so if you’re into that, put it in the notes for the Anal Play activity. Why Two Columns: Nearly every fetish has two distinct roles. (The few that don’t list an “N/A” in the second line.) BDSM involves a dominant and a submissive, most forms of penetration have a giver and a receiver, and so on. Because of this, every activity has two columns defining the two common roles for that activity, with the labels appearing just above the Done and Rate column for that activity. (If you want to discuss a third, fourth, etc., that’s what Notes are for!) For activities involving people outside the relationship, it’s important to define what “Playing Around” means, in the Notes; for some relationships, it will be BDSM- related activities, while for others it may mean kissing and fondling. Done: Put “Y,” “X,” or a checkmark here if you have experience in this role in this activity. Alternatively, rate your experience from 0-5, with 0 being “none” and 5 being “mastery.” Rate: Rate both roles for this activity based on your feelings about it, using the guidelines below. It’s fine to choose an in-between rating (e.g., “3/4” if you only somewhat like it) or otherwise mix them together. Don’t hesitate to use the Notes column to explain your rating – that’s why it’s there! Rating Explanation ! Essential Something you can’t live without. If your partner isn’t into this, it’s a real problem. 5 Love You love doing this. You’ll almost never say no, and probably want it frequently. 4 Like You like doing this. You want to do it from time to time, but not every time. 3 Don’t Mind You’re neutral. You’ll do it if your partner wants to, but it’s not really your thing. 2 Dislike You dislike doing this, but if your partner really wants it, you’ll put up with it. 1 Hate You hate doing this. You’ll do it for your partner, but you won’t enjoy it even a little. 0 Soft Limit You will not do this for your partner. You’re willing to discuss it, but are against it. X Hard Limit You will never, ever do this. If your partner demanded it, you would leave them instead. ? Curious You don’t know how you feel, but are definitely up for trying it at least once. Optionally, you can combine this with a number rating to specify how you think you’ll feel about it, from 1? for “I’m sure I’ll hate it it, but I’ll try it once to be sure,” to 5? for “I want to try this so much, and I’m sure I’ll love it!” / Not Applicable This is physically impossible for you to do, usually because you lack the anatomy for it. (For example, a female cannot give anal sex, due to her lack of a penis.) * See Notes Too complicated to sum up in this little space. See the Notes off to the right for details. However, these depictions are often constructed in rigid ways to typically exclude experiences of sexual intimacy. Despite this apparent exclusion, constructions of subspace (an altered mental state induced through BDSM encounters) on online blogs intrigued me to consider it as an alternative to widely accepted notions of sexual intimacy. Using a poststructuralist theoretical framework, I conducted an online ethnographic study in which I explored the varied ways in which self‐ identified South African BDSM individuals construct meaning around sexual intimacy.

Novel technologies often serve as pet fetish objects, but how do technologies perform as subjects in fetish culture? When digital technologies appear to us as objects, they present us with an illusion of mastery. In reality, technologies are active subjects and we, their "users," must bend to their requirements. In gaming scholarship, the process by which users must first internalize machinic logic in order to win mastery over a machine is termed learning the algorithm. Indeed, in cybernetics command and control through communication has much in common with sexual power dynamics. Both involve getting a partner to do what one wants and to not do what one doesn't want. A woman of Asian descent appears to be an entertainer, possibly a courtesan or geisha, wearing a pseudo-Chinese dress and hairdo; her hands are curled in front of her in an "Oriental-like" gesture as if she is dancing, and her head is tilted coyly with a cryptic smile (Figure 1). She gives a sexually suggestive expression and gaze but hesitates to speak. Another version with the same woman reads, "In silence I see. With WISDOM, I speak." These advertisements make up one part of the "Find Your Voice" Virginia Slims campaign. The campaign consisted of four different ads, each featuring women of distinctive races with stereotyping text.
