Book Release Function and Book-Fair Santiniketan, 8 August 2014
On the occasion of the 73rd Death Anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, a book- release function was held on 8 August 2014 at Rabindra Bhavana, Santiniketan. Books and journals of the Patha-Bhavana, Rabindra-Bhavana and Granthana Vibhaga were released by Professor Sushanta Dattagupta, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Visva-Bharati. Four Granthana Vibhaga books were released on the occasion, namely The Poet and The Scientist, compiled and edited by Partha Ghose, Fourteen Songs by Rabindranath Tagore (learned translated and introduced by Arthur Geddes), Rajnitir Pathakrame Rabindranath by Ashok Sen and Gitanjali : Sur O Bani by Alpana Roy, Sudhir Chakraborty and Indrani Mukhopadhyay.
Besides this, a book-fair was also organized at Lipika Auditorium, Santiniketan from 8 August to 14 August 2014. The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Professor Sushanta Dattagupta, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, on 8 August 2014 at Rabindra Bhavana. In his inaugural speech, Professor Dattagupta commended various programmes and publications initiated by the Rabindra-Bhavana and the Granthana Vibhaga in the last two years. Professor Tapati Mukhopadhyay, Director, Culture and Cultural Relations highlighted the basic points of the articles published in the new issue of Rabindrabiksha. Dr. Ramkumar Mukhopadhyay, Director, Granthana Vibhaga discussed some of the new publication programmes including revised edition of Visva-Vidya series, English translation of Tagore's writings etc
The faculty members and the students of the Sangit-Bhavana presented Rabindra- Sangit.
Book-fair at Rabindra-Tirtha, Kolkata 17-22 August 2014 To mark the Prayan Paksha of Gurudeva, a six-day book-fair was organized by the Visva- Bharati Granthana Vibhaga in collaboration with Rabindra-Tirtha at New Town, Kolkata from 17 to 22 August 2014.
The exhibition was opened by Sri Jay Goswami, eminent Bengali poet. In his inaugural speech, he discussed how Tagore's writings have emotionally and intellectually enriched the Bengali heart and mind. Professor Amiya Dev, former Vice-Chancellor, Vidyasagar University in his speech as the Chief Guest discussed the importance of making all books of Tagore available all the time because the readership varies from the complete 2 work to individual title. Sri Debasis Sen, Chairman, HIDCO, in his speech appreciated the joint attempts of Granthana Vibhaga and Rabindra-Tirtha to make Tagore's books available to the residents of the East and North-east Kolkata. Dr. Ramkumar Mukhopadhyay, Director, Visva-Bharati Granthana Vibhaga, in his speech dwelt on the renewed interest in Tagore's writings both in India and abroad. Sri Anup Motilal, Curator, Rabindra-Tirtha, proposed the vote of thanks.
It was followed by the stage performance of Rabindranath Tagore's Sarodotsava by the adhyapakas and vidyarthis of the Patha-Bhavana and Siksha-Satra. Sri Partha Chakraborty and Sri Soumen Sengupta, Adhyakshas of Patha-Bhavana and Siksha-Satra respectively, acted in two major roles of the play. The play, directed by Sri Abhik Ghosh, was highly appreciated by the audience for excellent acting, lighting, music and stage decoration.
