Federation in 1901 delivered a national system of railways to Australia but not a national railway system. Thus the so-called “standard” gauge of 4ft. 8½in. had not become the standard in Australia at Federation in 1901, and has still not. It was found that previous studies did not examine cause and effect in the making of rail gauge choices. This study has done so, and found that rail gauge choice decisions in the period 1850 to 1901 were not merely one-off events. Rather, those choices were part of a search over fifty years by government representatives seeking colonial identity/autonomy and/or platforms for election/re-election. Consistent with this interpretation of the history of rail gauge choice in the Australian colonies, no case was found where rail gauge choice was a function of the disciplined search for the best value-for-money option.

Comparatively few engineers realise the capability of narrow-gauge railways, and the saving that can be effected by their adoption, when applied to large industrial undertakings. Several instances have come under the author's notice, where the judicious adoption of light narrow-gauge lines, such as those dealt with in this paper, has resulted in considerable financial benefit to those concerned in them. Introduction The first section of the Egyptian standard railway for public transport service started at 1854. Fifteen years later, the first light railway network established to serve sugar industry southern Egypt. A light railway network initiated through the area considered for sugarcane production whenever a modern sugar mill established. The light railway represented the mechanism that continuously convey and feed each sugar factory with raw material of sugarcane produced in wide farm areas around the mill.     CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1. Background and Problem Statement Jakarta, the capitol of Indonesia is a metropolitan city which has total area 661,52 Km2 with 10,37 million population in 2017 [1]. As a metropolitan with the population over 10 million people and 18 million number of vehicles make Jakarta very crowded and the traffic jam. A lot of people prefer using the private car than the public transportation, this condition caused the capacity of the roads are over and in turn the traffic jam. The available public transportation at the moment are busway, metromini, bajaj which cannot fulfill the demand of public transportation. In the year 2015 the start government to developt public transportation projects to reduce the jam among others by building Mass Rapid Transportation (MRT). Not only the MRT, the government also has plan of the new program for transportation development to prevent the traffic jam in Jakarta which is by building the Light Rail Transit (LRT). In this Final Assignment design and analysis of the roand of LRT is limited on design and analysis of LRT railway track, design and analysis of upper structure of the fly over, the used material are reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete. 1 The stucture of LRT Jakrta was built 9 up to 12 meter above ground level using u-shape girder . Bridge planing is based on the data and the literature required. Preliminary design is the first planning to determine the dimension of the cross sectional structure of the u-shape girder based on the span of the bridge.
