Little Forest Hall sits at the end of a 0.25 mile private road on the edge of the parish of High Ongar, 2 miles north-east of the popular town of Chipping Ongar, 9 miles west of Chelmsford and 6 miles north-west of Brentwood. The village of High Ongar, which is 1.5 miles away, includes a village shop and post office, two public houses and a very highly rated primary school. The house dates back to the 16th century and is Grade II listed. It sits amidst beautiful rolling countryside and has stunning views over its surroundings towards the Essex Way and Fyfield. The front elevation has elegant symmetrical proportions with two bay windows either side of a pitched porch. A quote from the listing states “...C16 or earlier, with C19 south range. Timber framed and plastered with some painted brick, and red plain tile roof hipped to north.” The property has been the subject of an extensive renovation programme since 2010. This has included the remodelling of what is now a spectacular kitchen/breakfast room and adjoining family/ games room, with vaulted ceilings, beautiful bespoke cabinetry and polished granite work surfaces, an electric four-oven AGA, integral appliances, under floor heating, an integrated sound system and a fireplace with woodburner. The ground floor accommodation also includes a bright reception hall with vaulted ceiling, a very large dining room (23' in length), a drawing room and snug with polished wood floors and two fireplaces (including an impressive inglenook), an elegant morning room, a study, a shower room, a large utility room and a useful basement. An impressive staircase leads up to the first floor landing, which is bathed in light from a large south-west facing sash window, and five double bedrooms, a family bathroom and separate cloakroom. The master bedroom and guest bedroom have high ceilings, deep sash windows and attractive fireplaces and the remaining three bedrooms, which occupy the oldest part of the house, and have some exposed beams. The accommodation flows well throughout and the sixteenth century timber frame construction of the north wing makes an effective contrast with the Victorian proportions on the south side. The house is thoughtfully decorated and furnished in neutral tones and all of the rooms have the benefit of views over the grounds or the surrounding countryside. The immediate grounds are enclosed by electric gates, attractive weathered brickwork, post and rail fencing and established hedging. An extensive gravel driveway and turning circle provides parking and access to triple garage. A spectacular Grade II listed attached Essex Barn is available separately. To the west of the house there is a large sun terrace and deck surrounding a heated swimming pool, from which there are breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside. A large lawn falls away from the house and pool towards a pony paddock (enclosed by post and rail fencing) and field shelter. Services Oil fired central heating, private drainage, mains water and electricity. Directions (From Chelmsford) From the Widford roundabout take the A414 Ongar Road westbound towards Harlow. After approximately 8.5 miles turn right onto Forest Lodge Road and after 0.75 of a mile keep left at the fork in the road. Little Forest Hall will be found on the left hand side after approximately 0.3 of a mile. Postcode CM5 9RS Viewing Strictly by prior appointment with the sole agents Savills.
