A new home for Danske Bank’s Global service center in Vilnius

Mitnija built a new business center for the M. M. M. Projektai real estate development company in Vilnius. It was built in the Žvėrynas neighborhood near the city center on Saltoniškių Street in a former industrial area. The new business center became the home of Danske Bank’s Global Service Center.

The project’s first phase comprises a 6-story, 12,000 square- meter office building, a 340-space underground parking lot, and 130 ground-level parking spaces. The 2-hectare area managed by M. M. M. Projektai can hold a total of 60,000 square meters of commercial buildings.

The M. M. M. Projektai business center is distinguished not only by its modern and efficient architecture, but by its state-of-the-art construction and technological solutions. The roof of the A-class energy efficient building features solar panels that will generate a tenth of the structure’s required electricity. New bicycle paths were expanded and installed around the structure along with 11 electric vehicle charging stations.

The business center was built according to sustainable development principles and with the goal of earning a BREEAM certificate. In this project, Mitnija focused not only on innovative architectural solutions or engineering systems, but on responsible construction management, the creation of convenient and modern jobs during construction, and communication with the local community as well.

A long-term relationship: Building for our loyal client LIDL

Mitnija continues its prosperous partnership with LIDL, one of the biggest retail companies in Europe. We have been entrusted to build six LIDL stores in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipėda. The total size of these buildings will be more than 15,000 sq. m.

LIDL stores constructed by Mitnija have a new concept and design. Stonework walls, wooden frames and energy-efficient technological solutions distinguish them from other retail buildings.

Lidl also devoted special attention to social responsibility and its relationship with communities living near the stores. The company financed construction of a basketball courts, pedestrian crossings with stoplights, sidewalks and pathways, as well as an upgraded of surrounding roads.

Mitnija was chosen to perform infrastructure renovation and modernization tasks at the Lithuanian base in Šiauliai. Within 360 days, we will complete our design work, rebuild the fighter apron near the NATO aircraft hangar, and perform certain reconstruction tasks on the taxiway as well. Once the project is implemented, 8,400 sq. m of asphalt surfacing will have been reconstructed and a drainage system will have been installed.

Under an additional agreement, we will also plan and perform the repair of a 7,000 sq. m landing zone; install a special security lighting system; repair an ammunition bunker; build vehicle and equipment maintenance hangars; renovate the jet blast deflector zone; install a 4,000 sq. m reserve path; install a special pressurized air system and perform other tasks.

Our client is the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA).

Mitnija also won a design and construction contract from the U.S. Army to renovate and modernize the infrastructure at air force bases in Lithuania and Latvia. The project client is the Army Corps of Engineers, a U.S. Army division under the Department of Defense.

At the Lielvardė air force base in Latvia, we will design and build an aircraft spare parts warehouse, a fire station with supporting buildings and a hot hazardous cargo pad, and perform other tasks as well.

At the Lithuanian air force base in Šiauliai, we will design and expand the fighter apron with 14 parking spaces featuring jet blast deflectors and engineering systems. We will also build a 2,800 sq. m cargo marshaling area. All of the design and construction tasks ordered by the U.S. Army will be completed within 540 days.

We expanded the Technopolis Ozas campus in Vilnius

Mitnija constructed two new office buildings at the Technopolis Ozas campus next to Siemens Arena in Vilnius. The total area of the new buildings will be more than 25,000 sq. m. We also installed a 390-spot parking garage.

Our client – the Technopolis Lietuva company – belongs to Technopolis Plc, a Finnish-based international real estate development and management company.

Mitnija installed energy-saving systems at the new buildings at the Technopolis Ozas campus. The lighting is controlled by the number of people occupying specific parts of the building. Energy-saving light-emitting diode (LED) illumination and outdoor blinds were also installed to control sunlight levels. We also installed an automated building management system (BMS) in the campus‘s new buildings that will enable the management of their engineering systems according to pre-set modes.

Mitnija was also responsible for the preparation of one of the two new office buildings for Technopolis‘ largest tenant – the international company .

Building for a leading clothing retailer in the Baltics – a new office for Apranga Group in Vilnius

Just before Christmas 2016, we began constructing a new office building and logistics center for the Apranga Group, which is the largest clothing retail company in the Baltic countries. The new 15,400 sq. m. Apranga Group complex will be built in the 8.5 ha Vilnius Business Park on Ukmergės street, which is a project of the MG Valda real estate development company.

The complex will be located on a 3.6 ha site and will consist of buildings between 1-3 stories in height. It will house almost 200 Apranga Group employees and occupy a strategic location that ensures easy connections with Lithuanian cities and the other Baltic countries. It also provides the opportunity for continued expansion and ensures efficient logistics.

This first project at the Vilnius Business Park is special because of its modern architecture, which harmonizes with the landscape, and its high technical standards. The complex will have an A-class energy efficiency rating and will feature geothermal heating, heated flooring and an automatic temperature regulation system. The buildings‘ façades, which will primarily consist of glass, will be installed with long-lasting and easily cleanable materials. Automatically regulated blinds will protect the buildings from overheating and excessive sunlight levels.

New office building for our long-term client MAXIMA LT

Mitnija is continuing cooperation with its partner Maxima LT, the largest retail company in the . We have been entrusted with the construction of a new 7,000 sq. m office building for Maxima LT on Naugarduko street in Vilnius. This building is now home to more than 400 of the company’s administrative employees. We also built a new 4,500 sq. m. Maxima XX store next to the building.

The combined area of the office building, the store and the multi- level parking garage is more than 17,000 sq. m. We completed their construction in 11 months.

While implementing the Maxima project, we also reconfigured stretches of Naugarduko, Kauno and Smolensko streets and adjusted their traffic planning.

A design and construction assignment from the AIBĖ retail chain

Mitnija has designed and is building a new logistics center in the Kaunas district for the AIBĖ retail alliance, which unites more than 160 companies.

The new logistics center will cover 16,000 sq. m, about 5,000 of which will be a temperature-controlled warehouse. The building will also feature administrative facilities, a store, a cafeteria, and spaces where culinary and confectionery shops can be installed.

While designing the building, Mitnija focused on ensuring the efficiency of Aibė‘s business processes and keeping employees comfortable. The building will feature modern ventilation and air conditioner systems, rest areas and a cafeteria for employees, and spaces that will be very open to natural light.

The logistics center is being created with modern environmentally friendly solutions in mind. For example, more than 50% of the heating energy required by the center will be geothermal. Surplus energy from refrigerator cooling machines will also be used to heat water. All of the logistics center‘s engineering systems will be managed by an automated system.

Tallinn Connecting Europe: building for Rail Baltica Riga in Lithuania Kaunas

Mitnija, along with the Kauno Tiltai transportation infrastructure company, implemented one of the largest and most significant railroad transportation projects in the region, Rail Baltica, which – Warsaw using a new European gauge – will connect Warsaw, Vilnius, Kaunas, Berlin Poznan Riga, Tallinn and, by means of a train ferry, Helsinki.

In the fall of 2015, we finished laying, remodeling and updating the first stretch of European gauge track from Šeštokai to Marijampolė.

Kaunas Clinics, the hospital of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, is the largest and one of the most modern health care institutions in Lithuania. So when the client selected Mitnija for construction of a new trauma and emergency center there, for us this represented not only a challenge but also an acknowledgement of our long experience and high-quality work.

The new Trauma and Emergency Center provides highly advanced medical care to patients in 15,000 sq. m of intensive care units, operating rooms, diagnostics facilities, laboratories, and nursing care wards, where almost 200 patients can be treated at once. More than 400 employees work at the Center.

In this new medical center, Mitnija construction workers had to build 2 tunnels with a total length of almost 230 m, 17 operating rooms, separate intensive care and emergency units, facilities for laboratories and diagnostics, and even a helicopter landing pad.

A new home for Lithuanian pharmaceutical science

Mitnija built a more than 11,000-square-meter Center for New Pharmaceutical and Health Technologies at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences in Kaunas. Built in the city’s Santaka Valley, and financed by European Union and Lithuanian government funds, the new home of Lithuanian pharmaceutical science is a unique multifunctional complex bringing together the country’s scientists, teachers, and students from pharmaceutics and other medical fields under one roof. The modern, open-access center contains laboratories with the latest equipment necessary to conduct scientific research.

The building stands out because of its expressive architecture and complex structural and engineering solutions. For example, at the laboratory work stations we installed a network that includes natural gas, compressed air, vacuum, nitrogen, oxygen, helium, and carbon dioxide as well as modern engineering technologies that automatically regulate heating, ventilation, and cooling in separate spaces and conserve energy.

Building for Sanitex

For the second time, Sanitex – a national leader in wholesale trade, distribution, and logistics for consumer goods – chose Mitnija as its construction partner. Over a period of 7 months, we constructed a logistics and warehouse building of almost 16,000 sq. m in the Kaunas District. The building is an excellent example of concern for the environment: it employs geothermal heating, still a rare solution for such projects in Lithuania.

In 2012, Sanitex also chose Mitnija to remodel and repurpose a facility of more than 24,000 sq. m into a shopping center, housing a Sanitex’s Promo Cash & Carry wholesale store and an Ermitažas home improvement store.

Eternit Baltic factory in Naujoji Akmenė

Mitnija has been entrusted with the construction of a new 13,000 sq. m cement panel factory in Naujoji Akmenė. Our client Eternit Baltic is part of Etex, an international group that manufactures construction materials and comprises more than 100 companies.

The closest Etex façade materials factories are currently located in Germany and Belgium. Products manufactured at the new cement panel factory in Naujoji Akmenė will be exported to markets in northern, central and Eastern Europe.

DPD logistics center and parcel facility near Kaunas

Mitnija constructed a logistics center and parcel facility for DPD Lietuva – one of the biggest international delivery companies in Lithuania. The 5,000 sq. m logistics center was built in the Kaunas Free Economic Zone in a mere 9 months.

The DPD Lietuva logistics and parcel facility is located next to another exceptional project implemented by Mitnija – the 42,000 sq. m LIDL logistics and warehouse facility.

Akropolis. Building a completely different retail experience in Kaunas and Klaipėda

In somewhat more than 15 months, Mitnija built the 140,000-square-meter Akropolis shopping and entertainment center in Kaunas. Located in the heart of the city on the site of the former Kauno Audiniai textile factory, the three-level shopping mall features 80,000 sq. m of retail space and a 2,500-car parking garage of 60,000 sq. m. This was built next to the shopping mall above Karaliaus Mindaugo Avenue.

In order to prevent traffic jams, traffic in the parking garage, with its 12 ascending and descending ramps, is controlled by an automated traffic flow regulation system. More than 260 stores, cafes, and service companies operate in Kaunas’ Akropolis, along with a seven-screen Forum Cinemas movie theater and an ice skating rink.

The Lithuanian Museum of Ethnocosmology was built in Molėtai, a mainly rural district north of Vilnius, in 1990. As the museum’s popularity grew, it was decided to thoroughly remodel it, increasing its area threefold and providing it with modern, futuristic architectural accents.

In 2008, Mitnija reconfigured, updated, and expanded the museum to almost 2,000 sq. m., changing its appearance completely.

The entrance to the observatory and museum is impressive. It is an aluminum-plated, complex, ellipsoid building reminiscent of an alien spaceship. In the great telescope tower, the main 80 cm diameter telescope has been installed. It is one of the largest public telescopes in Europe.

Mitnija was awarded a gold medal for the project in the Lithuanian Product of the Year competition.

The supply of air, light, and medical gases in operating rooms takes place by means of remote control, which allows healthcare professionals to work particularly effectively during operations. The air supplied to operating rooms is humidified and dehumidified by special filters, and the system ensures the right temperature, humidity, and sterility. The new Obstetrics and Surgery block at Vilnius University Hospital Santariškės Clinics is undoubtedly one of the most modern in Lithuania. This 27,000 sq. m facility, built by Mitnija, provides obstetrics, pregnancy pathology, neonatology, and gynecology services of the highest caliber. The hospital is also the home of the Center for Medical Genetics, Center for Otolaryngology, Center for Eye Diseases, and Center for Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, with state-of-the-art intensive care units and operating rooms.

The hospital contains impressive engineering systems that are not visible to the naked eye: a computer network, a local and satellite TV system, a fire alarm system, and operating room audio/video observation and recording systems.

Mitnija is building the Ąžuolyno Namai apartment complex in Kaunas. This cluster of six apartment buildings will be built near the historic Žaliakalnis neighborhood in the center of the city. Our client is the Egavi real estate development company.

The Ąžuolyno Namai concept was prepared by Danish architecture company Aarhus Architektene and the technical project was prepared by Simper, a Lithuanian company.

This apartment complex being developed by Egavi will meet A-class energy efficiency standards. It will feature 84 apartments, 98 parking spots in an underground garage, and outdoor and rooftop terraces. The apartments will be outfitted with ThermoWood and hand-made ceramic clay tiles.

At Ažuolyno Namai, we designed modern, high-quality apartments that make maximum use of natural lighting and the green space surrounding them, following the subtle traditions of Scandinavian architecture. There is plenty of space between the buildings for common spaces like playgrounds and private outdoor terraces. The buildings‘ façades will feature environmentally conscious and long-lasting materials, and the project will be dominated by clear and understated architecture that reflects the characteristics of Scandinavian homes.
