The history of the Lambda Beta colony of Phi Gamma Delta April 11, 2010 5:30 PM USU-311 ASI Boardroom Founding of the Colony / Alpha Class Pledge Ceremony Field Secretary Nate Carney, Pledge Educator Aemon Fowler, and Undergraduate Archon Councilor Michael P. “Bear” Kennedy led a group of eight young men into the ASI Boardroom and conducted the pledge ceremony for the Alpha class. April 11, 2010 6 PM USU-311 ASI Boardroom Officer Elections and Retreat The cabinet members are elected: Eric B. Sor-Lim for president, Jameson W. Nyeholt for treasurer, Nicholas J. Santos for recording secretary, Timothy Mraz for corresponding secretary, and Kaveh Lavasany for pledge class historian. Joshua R. Mas and Kshamaa S. Berg are elected to become co-recruitment chairmen, and Daniel J. Costa becomes the Social chairman. This was a careful and significant moment in our history, because choosing these elected officials of the colony meant choosing truly qualified people we want to point us in the direction that we want the colony to proceed in. The retreat was a significant insightful experience in which the guidelines for what Fiji stands for and what we should expect was put in place. April 15, 2010 7 PM Walter Pyramid Greek Sing This was the first Greek event attended by the Lambda Beta Colony members. Every year, all of the IFC fraternities and Pan-hellenic sororities of CSULB have a singing and dancing performance event to raise money for a good cause. April 19, 2010 9 PM USU-311 ASI Boardroom Meeting #1 The first meeting ran long, however a lot of ideas and discussion were involved; from recruitment, to the funds we will have, website development, t-shirt development. A dues system for the fall and spring was voted on and established. April 21, 2010 10 AM USU-306 Situational Leadership II Training Justin Burns, the Director of Chapter Development from IHQ visits the colony and provides SLII training. April 26, 2010 9 PM USU-204 Meeting #2 / Alpha Class Pledge Ceremony The members of the Alpha Class who were already pledged conducted the pledge ceremony for Stephen Beauchamp and Kaveh Lavasany. This productive meeting involving brainstorming ideas for recruiting and resulted in us backing support behind a “diamond and star” campaign that would tie in with the t-shirts that we would all have to represent us on campus. Daniel gave a presentation on “risk management. Monthly dues were paid by every member. Aemon (pledge educator) also initiated pledge education and provided us with quizzes on chapter 1 of the Purple Pilgrim. April 28, 2010 5 PM Entire CSULB Campus Diamond and Star Flyer Campaign Getting the Fiji image out there on campus. May 30, 2010 7 PM UMC Daniel Costa’s Junior Tuba Recital Daniel Costa has a recital at school and several of the founding fathers attend. May 1, 2010 4 PM Costa Mesa Country Club Orange County Pig Dinner / Founder’s Day Six Fiji brothers and Pledge Educator Aemon attended the Orange County Pig Dinner that the chapters from Chapman and UCI were also attending. This event was the first time we had face to face interaction with other Fiji undergraduate brothers, and it was humbling to see the excitement and proud demeanor the brothers (undergraduate and graduate) held for being Fiji's. The event was beneficial for us as a colony, as we were able to network with the Chapman and UCI brothers May 3, 2010 9 PM USU-311 ASI Boardroom Meeting #3 Josh and Kshamaa presented recruitment etiquette and ideas, as well as introducing the “bake off for finals” idea. Brian Toole, our section chief was also in attendance. Aemon provided us with a quiz on chapter 2 and 3 of the purple pilgrim May 3, 2010 11 PM Entire CSULB Campus Diamond and Star Flyer Campaign Getting the Fiji image out there on campus. May 10, 2010 9 PM USU-311 ASI Boardroom Meeting #4 The founding fathers continue their pledge education and plans for recruitment as well as summer events. Details of our first philanthropy event at California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) were also being worked out. May 15, 2010 11 AM Daniel Costa’s house Preparing for the excursion of passing out cookies in the library during finals week We started with about 40 pounds of cookie dough and spent about 6 hours baking cookies and hanging out at Dan's house. May 16, 2010 – May 18, 2010 California State University of Long Beach Library Passing out cookies in the library During Finals week, when students are usually in rough seas with studying, we went to the library three different times and handed out a large quantity of cookies that we baked the Saturday before. We feel that this is a unique tradition that we will continue to do every semester during Finals week. -------------- End of Spring 2010 Semester -------------------------- May 24, 2010 Aemeon’s house Meeting #5 and retreat Planning and discussion about CPK fundraiser and other topics. Website plans,design, and payment ideas were also discussed. Micheal and Jameson started implementing these ideas. May 26, 2010 California Pizza Kitchen Joshua’s Journey philanthropy fundraiser The colony's first ever fundraiser was held at CPK to benefit the Joshua's Journey of Hope foundation. The foundation was set up by a FIJI Graduate Brother David J. Clarke of the original Lambda Beta Chapter at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) to support research into the rare disease Cystinosis, which effects his son Joshua. The event raised nearly $450, all of which will be donated to Joshua’s Journey of Hope. June 7, 2010 USU-311 ASI Boardroom Meeting #6 The meeting brought up a lengthy discussion on everyone's roles within the fraternity and the progress happening on a week-by-week basis. Planning and budgeting of Ekklesia was also discussed. June 16, 2010 Joshua Mas’s house Ekklesia presentation committee meeting #1 Eric, Josh and Kaveh plan out their presentation that they will present at Ekklesia June 23, 2010 Joshua Mas’s house Ekklesia presentation committee meeting #2 Eric, Josh and Kaveh continue to plan out their presentation that they will present at Ekklesia. July 12, 2010 USU-311 ASI Boardroom Meeting #7 Discussion was held on many different topics for immediate and future fall planning. We discussed ideas on the materials and design of our letters, and decided a date to start building them. A date on when the first initiation ceremony will occur was also decided. July 17, 2010 Ekklesia presentation committee meeting #3 Joshua Mas’s house Eric, Josh and Kaveh continue to plan out their presentation that they will present at Ekklesia. July 18, 2010 Aemon's house Initiation ceremony for Stephen Beuchamp, Kshamaa Berg, Kaveh Lavasany, Joshua Mas, Eric Sor-Lim Five graduate brothers from the original Lambda Beta Colony at CSULB conducted the first initiation ceremony for the Lambda Beta Colony at CSULB for five of the brothers from the Alpha class. July 24, 2010 Initiation ceremony for Daniel Costa, Michael Ohde, and Nick Santos Joshua Mas’s house The five brothers that were already initiated conducted the initiation ceremony for three more of the Alpha class brothers. July 29, 2010 – August 1, 2010 Biltmore Hotel, Phoenix, Arizona 162nd Ekklesia -------------- Beginning of Fall 2010 Semester -------------------------- August 9, 2010 USU-311 ASI Boardroom Meeting #1 This was the last meeting before the first day of the fall 2010 semester so much discussion went into planning for the fall 2010 semester. The group who went to Ekklesia also discussed what they learned on issues such as recruitment, finances, and chartering. It was also announced that Stephen was appointed to be our philanthropy chairman. There was also discussion about what committees we should establish. August 12 – 13, 2010 USC Presidents Summer Retreat Eric attended August 14, 2010 Tim Mraz’s house / Joshua Mas’s house Creating the letters during the day / Initiation ceremony for Tim Mraz and Jameson Nyeholt Many of the founding fathers were able to make it to Tim's house where they were able to create the letters from sheets of wood. It was beneficial to have Tim as our project coordinator since he had expertise with woodwork and design. In the evening, most the founding fathers that were already initiated were able to conduct a initiation ceremony for the last two members of the Alpha class. August 19, 2010 Tim Mraz’s house Painting the letters Building the letters and painting them required a second and final day for many of the founding father's to meet at Tim's house to do this. Once the 8-foot letters were finished all of the founding father's certainty felt that they had built something that will be able to adequately represent the image of FIJI. August 23, 2010 Student Recreation and Wellness Center Working out at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center on Soft Opening day A few of the founding father's were excited that the Rec center was about to open to the public for the very first time, so we made it out to take a look at and try out the Rec center. Although the rec center was still missing some equipment, we felt we were part of history for being some of the first people to use this state-of-the-art facilities. August 25, 2010 5:30 PM USU Beach Auditorium Recruitment Bootcamp Caitlin headed it with help of friend . Do and Dont of recruiment August 28, 2010 Long Beach State dorms Dorm Move-in Many of the founding fathers helped the incoming students living at the dorms move-in.
