PRINTS AS ART PRODUCTS II. APPLICATIONS OF THE REPRODUCTIVE GRAPHIC ARTS The object of the list, naturally and primarily, is to show what the Library has of the literature of a subject the interest in which is steadily increasing. Incidentally, also, it indicates our wants, some of which, at least, are apt to represent books of such rarity that only through the help of private collectors will they come to the Library's shelves. The list is divided into two sections. The first, intended for the amateur and student of prints, includes the general subject of prints produced by etching, engraving and lithography. The second appeals to those interested in various practical "Applications" of the reproductive graphic arts to the production of book-illustration, book-plates, portraits, caricature, playing-cards, posters, and various other specialties, such as menus, programmes, titles and visiting cards. It also includes' the books on the various photo- mechanical processes which play so important a role to-day. The line of demarcation, of course, cannot be drawn absolutely. Thus, Lithography, in Section I, includes practical applications. This list does not include articles in magazines or portions of books, although they are often valuable and even indispensable. Much material on individual artists, in fact, is to be found only in that form. It has been excluded from this list, but all such material which we have been able to find has been listed in our card catalogue and is therefore available. Also, this is a list of books about prints, not of books of prints. Bound collections of prints are therefore not included, excepting when the prints directly form illustrations to text. Thus, J. S. Cotman's "Liber Studiorum" is excluded, while "Works of Hogarth," with text by Nichols, is included. PRINTS AS ART PRODUCTS Bibliography Godde, J. • Daily Bonds, Stocks, & Currency
DAILY BONDS, STOCKS, & CURRENCY COMMENTARY Wednesday December 23, 2020 BONDS COMMENTARY 12/23/20 We expect rallies off scheduled data but doubt the gains will hold OVERNIGHT CHANGES THROUGH 3:16 AM (CT): BONDS -0 Overnight treasury prices extended yesterday's bounce but ultimately failed to hold the gains and have settled back into negative territory early today. We suspect the volatility in treasuries was the result of news that the President might reject the intensely negotiated stimulus deal because direct payments were not sufficient. While not a recent definitive impact on treasury prices, it would also appear as if yet another major junction looms from the exit negotiations with both sides the table committed to one last attempt to solve the divorce before it is forced upon the parties. While the markets are likely to view the US durable goods order as the primary release of the day, (early due to holiday) initial and ongoing claims data figures will add to the potential volatility in the 7:30 release window. On the other hand, traders should acknowledge yesterday's significant jump in quarterly PCE readings were the highest since the second quarter of 2011 and that could be an early warning sign that deflation is being replaced with reflation. Therefore, the monthly PCE index this morning might be very important measure to watch, especially with predictions for that reading only expected to post a fractional gain! Given the markets inability to rally off weak scheduled data recently, we would suggest traders wait for a rally to the vicinity of 174-00 to sell March bonds and or a rally to 138-07 to get short March Notes.

  • Why Japan Supports Whaling
An edited version of this paper has been accepted for publication in the Journal of International Wildlife and Policy WHY JAPAN SUPPORTS WHALING Keiko Hirata* 1. INTRODUCTION Japan is one of the few states in the world that adamantly supports whaling. For decades, Tokyo has steadfastly maintained its right to whale and has aggressively lobbied the International Whaling Commission (IWC) for a resumption of commercial whaling. Japan’s pro-whaling stance has invited strong international criticism from both environmental groups and Western governments, many of which view Tokyo as obstructing international efforts to protect whales. Why has Japan adhered to a pro-whaling policy that has brought the country international condemnation? Its defiant pro-whaling stance is not consistent with its internationally cooperative position on other environmental matters. For the past decade, Tokyo has been a key player in international environmental regimes, such as those to combat ozone depletion and global warming.1 If Japan is serious about environmental protection and desires to play a role as a ‘green contributor,’2 why hasn’t it embraced the anti-whaling norm, 3 thereby joining other states in wildlife protection and assuming a larger role in global environmental leadership? *Research Fellow, Center for the Study of Democracy, University of California, Irvine, California, USA. We were in the Theological Seminary at Princeton together, since which time our friendship has deepened with increasing years. From the inception of his work in Philadelphia I have watched his career with the deepest interest, loo much cannot be said in praise of his self-sacrificing and indefatigable efforts in pushing forward the work to which, in the providence of God, he was called shortly after the completion of his Semi- nary course.

Bankside Gallery | 48 Hopton Street | London SE1 9JH | 020 7928 7521 | [email protected] Print REbels Haden, Palmer, Whistler and the Origins of the RE (The Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers) 25 April - 13 May 2018, Private View 24 April 6-8pm Bankside Gallery Then touring to other UK venues in 2018 and 2019 1. Print REbels celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of the founder and first President of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers, Sir Francis Seymour Haden. A prestigious collection of works has been brought together to show prints produced by Haden along with those who inspired him such as Rembrandt and Dürer, and his contemporaries, including Samuel Palmer and JAM Whistler. In 1880, the time the RE was founded, artists such as Haden, Palmer and Whistler were considered revolutionary in their championing of printmaking as a creative medium. In mid-Victorian England, printmaking was seen primarily as a means to make reproductions of artworks, and many printmakers only made a living working as a copyist. These printmakers were not eligible for membership of The Royal Academy, as creative printmaking was not recognised as an art form on the same level as painting and sculpture. It was this that prompted Haden to rebel against this and form a new society, the RE. Haden and Whistler are credited with instigating the Etching Revival, an art movement which lasted 75 years. The RE has always been closely connected with the RA, with several Royal Academicians being founding members of the RE along with Seymour Haden, and the 2nd 3rd and 4th RE Presidents being also RAs.

Bulletin Ave were able to supply each print mentioned at the price quoted, the steady advance in the value of certain rare prints sometimes renders it impossible for us to supply a duplicate im- pression at the original price. After the Bulletin has been examined, we should be glad to send a selection of the Etchings themselves, for inspection, by ex- press or mail, to any address. AVe pay all charges of transmission ; and our correspondents need feel under no obligation to purchase, if the Etchings themselves do not satisfy them in every respect. Correspondents whom we do not already know, and who may desire to have Etchings sent on selection, will recognize the pro- priety of introducing themselves with a proper reference.
