Hijri Calendar 1443 | 2021-2022 Hijri Calendar 1443 | 2021-2022 DAR AL-HIJRAH ISLAMIC CENTER HIJRI CALENDAR 1443 | 2021-2022 HIJRI CALENDAR 1443 | 2021-2022 MUHARRAM AUGUST | SEPTEMBER ﱡ ْ َ َ ﱠ ﱠ َ ٱ ُ َ ٱ ﱠ ٱ َ َ َ ْ ً ﻗﺎﻝ ﺗﻌﺎﻟﻰ: (ﺇِﻥ ِﻋﺪﺓ ﻟﺸﻬ ِﻮﺭ ِﻋﻨﺪ َِْﷲ ﺛﻨﺎ ﻋﺸﺮَ ﺷﻬﺮﺍ َٰ ٱ ﱠ َ ْ َ َ ََ ٱ ﱠ َٰ َٰ َٱ ْ َ ْ َ ٓ ْ َ َ ٌ ِﻓﻰ ِﻛﺘ ِﺐ ِﷲ ﻳﻮﻡ ﺧﻠﻖ ﻟﺴﻤﻮ ِﺕ ﻭ ﻷﺭﺽ ِﻣﻨﻬﺎ ﺃﺭﺑﻌﺔ ُ ُ ٌ َ َ ﱢ ُ َْ ﱢ ُ َ َ َ ْ ُ ْ ﱠ َ ُ َ ُ ْ ﺣﺮﻡ ۚ ٰﺫﻟِﻚ ٱﻟﺪﻳﻦ ٱﻟﻘﻴﻢ ۚ ﻓﻼ ﺗﻈﻠِﻤﻮﺍ ِﻓ ِﻴﻬﻦ ﺃﻧﻔﺴﻜﻢ ۚ َ َ ُ ْ ْ ُ ْ َ َ ﱠ ً َ َ َُ ُ َ ُ ْ َ ﱠ ً ﻭ ٰﻗﺘِﻠﻮﺍ ٱﻟﻤﺸِﺮ ِﻛﻴﻦ ﻛﺎٓﻓﺔ ﻛﻤﺎ ﻳ ٰﻘﺘِﻠﻮﻧﻜﻢ ﻛﺎٓﻓﺔ ۚ َ ْ َ ُ ْ َ ﱠ َﱠ َ َ ْ ُ ﱠ َ ﻭٱﻋﻠﻤ ٓﻮﺍ ﺃﻥ ٱﷲ ﻣﻊ ٱﻟﻤﺘِﻘﻴﻦ) ﺳﻮﺭﺓ ﺍﻟﺘﻮﺑﺔ 36 Allah decrees that there are twelve months- ordained in Allah’s Book on the Day when He created the heavens and earth- four months of which are sacred: this is the correct calculation. Do not wrong your souls in these months- though you may fight the idolaters at any time, if they first fight you- remember that Allah is with those who are mindful of Him. One impor- tant aspect of this issue is that it determines and guides the relationship that philosophers have with religious writings, which rest upon faith in divine revelation. Knowing that they are products of a miraculous contact with God, how should one approach them? Can they be read, understood, and evaluated like any other writing? Is a philosophic approach to revealed texts possible? More importantly, are revealed texts compatible with the spirit of philosophy? Do revealed texts approve or disapprove of the pursuit of knowl- edge through natural human reason? In this paper, I intend to study the relationship between the Qur’an and philosophy.     The Quran and the Secular Mind In this engaging and innovative study Shabbir Akhtar argues that Islam is unique in its decision and capacity to confront, rather than accommodate, the challenges of secular belief. The author contends that Islam should not be classed with the modern Judaeo–Christian tradition since that tradition has effectively capitulated to secularism and is now a disguised form of liberal humanism. I Like many other African American converts in the New York area, they came into Islam by way of an immigrant connection or a "jazz route": many Muslims living in Harlem during the late 1940s and early 1950s were musicians.2 The converts frequently socialized at restaurants run by Muslims from the Caribbean and at clubs that featured Muslim entertainers or those attracted to Islam at one time or another such as Dakota Staton, Charlie Parker, and John Coltrane.
