MEDIA RELEASE 19 October 2019 Jonesy & Amanda win Best On-Air Team FM at Radio Awards Successful WSFM breakfast hosts Jonesy and Amanda (Brendan Jones and Amanda Keller), have been crowned Best On- Air Team (Metro FM category) at the 31st Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRAs), announced this evening at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane. The win caps off a great year for the much-loved duo, who have notched up 14 years on air together and previously won the coveted award in 2012 and 2014. 2GB’s drive time host Ben Fordham won Best Talk Presenter for the fifth time and 2GB morning presenter Ray Hadley was awarded Best Current Affairs Presenter, bringing his career tally of ACRAs to 33 across all categories. The Best On-Air Team (Metro AM) was won by Afternoons with Erin Molan & Natalie Peters, the first female duo to host a news/talk show on 2GB and the first all-female team to win this award in ACRAs history. NOVA’s popular drive show Kate, Tim & Marty won Best Networked Program and Best Syndicated Australian Program. Best Entertainment Presenter went to Triple M funny man Lawrence Mooney, while Rebecca Morse, half of Hit107 Adelaide’s new breakfast duo Bec & Cosi, won Best Newcomer On-Air. Winners of other major awards included: Best Sports Presenter – Peter Sterling (Triple M, Sydney) Best Music Presenter – Kent “Smallzy” Small, Nova Network Best Community Service Project – Kennedy Molloy’s trip to Yuendumu for Red Dust, Triple M. Growing up in Jerilderie in southern NSW, Brownless was a schoolboy star with Assumption College before making his debut with Cats in 1986. The proud father of four has son Oscar following in his footsteps, with the young midfielder in to his second year on the Cats’ AFL list. Brownless made his senior VFL debut in Round 1, 1986 and quickly made a name for himself as a strong full-forward, winning the Cats’ best first year player award that year. Twice he led Geelong’s goalkicking, was All-Australian in 1991 and had a thirst for the big occasion. Nine goals in the 1992 Qualifying Final, eight in the classic 1991 Elimination Final win over St Kilda and an average of three goals per game across the four Grand Finals he played in stamped his qualities. For those who’ve been living in a cave in Outer Mongolia (or outside Sydney, as the case may be!), that’s the date long-time 2Day FM breakfast DJs Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O start their new show at rival station Mix106.5 FM. It’s also the date Mix106.5 FM will be rebranded as KIIS FM. So will these major changes have the desired effect for Mix, boosting both their audience and advertising revenue? Roy Morgan investigates… The total Sydney radio market comprises almost 3.9 million people. According to data from Roy Morgan Research, market leader 2Day’s total audience comprises 15% of this (568,000 people), well ahead of Mix106.5’s 10% market share (393,000 people). With 506,000 listeners, or 13% market share, Nova 96.9 FM has Sydney’s second-largest commercial audience. Battle of the breakfasters Breakfast (5.30–9am) is traditionally one of commercial radio’s most competitive timeslots, and has been dominated in Sydney by Southern Cross Austereo-owned 2Day FM’s Kyle and Jackie O Show for years.
