Established in 1821, and still 100% controlled by the founding family, Lu- xardo is one of the oldest European firms producing liqueurs. Transferred to Torreglia (Padova) in 1947 due to the consequences of the Second World War, it is now a leader in the liqueurs industry and one of the few proprietary brands present in almost all the international markets. The firm owns over 20.000 Marasca Luxardo cherry trees, cultivated in industrial nurseries and is the only company with such agricultural installation in the European Union. The 61th TROFEO LUXARDO 2018 marks the 61th Anniversary of the Trofeo LUXARDO, world’s oldest and best known sabre competition. Begun in 1955 (originally it was fenced every second year) when international sabre fencing had no such events and the World Cup was decades away, the finals have been held in Padova in prestigious historic sites such as the Caffe’ Pedrocchi, the medieval Palazzo della Ragione and the opera house Giuseppe Verdi. The rules establish that the Trophy – each time an art work – is awarded to athletes who win it three times: so far only 6 sabre fencers have succeeded and since 2002 nobody has been able to bring home the latest Trophy, a silver artistic fencing mask by the goldsmith Massimo Antonelli. From the very beginning the objective of this unusual competition was – says the founder Franco Luxardo himself a former sabre fencer – to bring together young people from many countries not only to compete but to break ideological or political walls and establish mutual understanding and long standing friendships. This has worked through the “cold war” period and continues today in a globalized world. THE RULES The competition is open to Italian and foreign athletes, according to the F.I.E. rules applicable to World Cup events. The event features the Luxardo Trophy to be awarded to the fencer win- ning the competition for 3 years, including non-consecutive wins. In the meantime, the trophy will remain with the organising committee, which will arrange for the winner’s name to be carved on the pedestal. Parigi 1900 Torneo di sciabola maschile individuale: Medaglia d'oro - Antonio Conte Medaglia d'argento - Italo Santelli Nella foto: Antonio Conte Londra 1908 Torneo di sciabola maschile a squadre: Medaglia d'argento - Riccardo Novak, Alessandro Pirzio Biroli, Abelardo Olivier,Marcello Bertinetti e Sante Ceccherini.

Further, in recent years it has added a production of quality foods (cocktail cherries, jams, fruit syrups). The family is currently busy building a “Luxardo Museum” to be inaugurated in occasion of its 200th Anniversary (1821-2021).
