This summer, due to the pandemic, we cannot have an in-person visitor, so our Mission appeal is virtual. St. Edna has chosen to support and hear about the School Sisters of St. Francis, which is an international community who, for almost 150 years, strive to be the Face of Jesus for people of all ages and abilities through ministries in education, health care, pastoral care and social services. The Mission in Bangalore, India includes the Asha Bhavan Home, where elder women who have been abandoned are given a safe place to live with dignity and love. The Sisters provide nourishing food, medical services and compassionate care to about 24 destitute mostly elder women who have been abandoned by their families. Many are bedridden, mentally challenged or extremely fragile in mind and spirit. The sisters provide these women with help and hope, enabling them to regain not only their health, but also their sense of self worth and self respect. You may find more information at www.sssf.org If you are able, please place a donation (which will support all the 104 participating Mission causes) in the collection basket (checks made payable to the parish), or you can make a donation online at: WeAreMissionary.org/give

Stewardship Bulletin Reflection August 8, 2021 — Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time 1 KGS 19:4-8; PS 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9; EPH 4:30-52; JN 6:41-51 Our readings today continue to educate us on the Eucharist. Jesus tells us in our Gospel that He is this Food that sustains us as He says, “I am the living bread that came down from heaven…and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” This bread He is referring to is His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity that we receive. This bread becomes the flesh of Christ Himself. And in consuming Him, we receive every grace we need to live forever in eternal life. We are strengthened in virtue and united more closely to Christ. This is the Food that will fill us as we journey through this life. Mistakenly we often take the Eucharist for granted. Maybe we come to Mass to “check the box” instead of actively partaking in this intimate exchange or we receive Jesus in the Eucharist and then forget about Him the second we leave the church after Mass. To receive all that God wants to give us in the Eucharistic, we must do our part in being receptive to His grace and living out active discipleship in our day-to-day lives. Let us approach the Lord acknowledging His Divine Presence and be open to all the graces He desires to pour out on us. Then we must go forth, being attentive to the moments that the Holy Spirit is calling us to act as He acts — in total love and sacrifice. The Eucharist affects our lives more than we can comprehend. We are receiving God Himself. Let us strive to receive Him reverently and with open hearts.

10 August 8, 2021 Parish Life Commission www.stedna.org/parishlife Afternoon Bowling for All The Wednesday Afternoon Mixed Bowling League is back and is open to all bowlers. We are usually finished bowling by 3:00pm. The majority of the League is made up of fellow Parishioners. We have lots of funs, and a wide range of ages and averages.
