Islamic Psychology
Islamic Psychology Islamic Psychology or ilm an-nafs (science of the soul) is an important introductory textbook drawing on the latest evidence in the sub-disciplines of psychology to provide a balanced and comprehensive view of human nature, behaviour and experience. Its foundation to develop theories about human nature is based upon the writings of the Qur’an, Sunnah, Muslim scholars and contemporary research findings. Synthesising contemporary empirical psychology and Islamic psychology, this book is holistic in both nature and process and includes the physical, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions of human behaviour and experience. Through a broad and comprehensive scope, the book addresses three main areas: Context, perspectives and the clinical applications of applied psychology from an Islamic approach. This book is a core text on Islamic psychology for undergraduate and postgraduate students and those undertaking continuing professional development courses in Islamic psychology, psychotherapy and counselling. Beyond this, it is also a good supporting resource for teachers and lecturers in this field. Dr G. Hussein Rassool is Professor of Islamic Psychology, Consultant and Director for the Riphah Institute of Clinical and Professional Psychology/Centre for Islamic Psychology, Pakistan. He is accountable for the supervision and management of the four psychology departments, and has responsibility for scientific, educational and professional standards, and efficiency. He manages and coordinates the RICPP/Centre for Islamic Psychology programme of research and educational development in Islamic psychology, clinical interventions and service development, and liaises with the Head of the Departments of Psychology to assist in the integration of Islamic psychology and Islamic ethics in educational programmes and development of research initiatives and publication of research. -
Gives Edge to BJP in Karnataka
VERDICT 2019 Sparring between Congress and JD (S) Gives Edge to BJP in Karnataka S. RAJENDRAN A para-motor flying in Vijayapura city on Monday, May 8, 2019, to encourage people to vote in coming Lok Sabha elections. Photo: Rajendra Singh Hajeri. For long a pocket borough of the Congress party Karnataka appears headed for a waveless election. The southern State, which goes to the polls in two phases - 14 seats each on April 18 and April 23, will see a direct contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is in government in the centre and the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) combine, which is in power at the State. S. Rajendran, Senior Fellow, The Hindu Centre for Politics and Public Policy, Bengaluru, writes on how each of the main parties to the contest are placed. The two main contestents - the BJP and the Congress-JD (S) coalition, he says, are expected to share the spoils, though the former enjoys an edge. he 2019 General Election to the Lok Sabha for the 28 seats from Karnataka, to be held in two phases on April 18 and 23 (See Appendix for T dates and constituencies1), is expected to be markedly different from the last elections held in 2014. First, this time round the poll will be a direct challenge between the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) [JD (S)] combine and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Second, there is no perceptible wave in favour of any political party. The two formations are, therefore, expected to share the spoils although the BJP enjoys considerable edge because of two factors: differences within the Congress party and the conflict of interests between the grassroots level workers of the Congress and the JD (S). -
Statement Condemning the Blatant Attempt to Communalise the Pandemic by Some Bjp Leaders, Including Tejasvi Surya
1 STATEMENT CONDEMNING THE BLATANT ATTEMPT TO COMMUNALISE THE PANDEMIC BY SOME BJP LEADERS, INCLUDING TEJASVI SURYA 06/05/2021 On 4/5/2021, the BJP Member of Parliament from Bangalore South Tejasvi Surya, accompanied by Basavanagudi MLA Ravi Subramanya, Chickpet MLA Uday Garudachar and Bommanahalli MLA Satish Reddy visited the BBMP South Zone control room. The objective was to supposedly unearth a scam that has been underway in the bed allotment process of the municipal corporation. A video of this encounter where three men are intimidating a woman officer of the BBMP has been circulating on whatsapp and other social media. Despite the fact that the control room had more than 200 people from various communities, Mr. Surya cherrypicked and singled out a list of 17 Muslim workers alleging them of the scam. Mr. Subramanya provoked further by asking “have you appointed them for a Madrassa or a corporation?” Questioning the appointment process, another MLA asked “How can he appoint 17 members like a Haj committee?" Soon after, a WhatsApp message began to be circulated listing out the same Muslim names read out by Mr. Surya and called them terrorists. Further, the highly respected, Joint Commissioner Solid Waste Management, Mr. Sarfraz Khan was accused that the war room headed by him was responsible for many deaths. Pained by these false allegations, Mr. Khan, wrote a Facebook post dismissing the allegations. Mr. Khan’s exemplary commitment to humanity is well known among officials and civil society members. News reports indicate that many of the 17 Muslims listed by the BJP legislators have been fired. -
Journal for the Study of Antisemitism
Journal for the Study of Antisemitism Special Issue: "Contemporary Antisemitism and Racism in the Shadow of the Holocaust” Guest Editors: Karin Stoegner, Nicolas Bechter, Lesley Klaff , Philip Spencer 2015 As of April 1st 2021, this special issue is subject to a CC-BY-NC-ND license. Open access publication of this issue is made possible by the Journal of Contemporary Antisemitism, published by Academic Studies Press. Welcome to the Guest Editors When I first spoke to Lesley Klaff about the possibility of JSA hosting ESA conference papers, I was not exactly certain what was involved. For several years, ESA’s roster of paper presentations was top notch and often included key conceptualizations not found elsewhere. I wanted to make certain that some of the field’s best thinkers were receiving their due. JSA was located in North America, ESA was located in Europe and the gap needed to be bridged. My appreciation to Karin Stoegner and her team for their perseverance in making such fine work available to others. The papers have in common a distinct European flavor—they are nuanced and contextual driven. Except for David Patterson, the authors are European offering their perspective from what has become ground zero in displays of the new antisemitism. Europe is also ground zero for the old antisemitism and the context of the Holocaust affords certain insights that North Americans have yet to fully understand. -
