The mosque is a historic site to get attention in care and maintenance on the physical components of the building to prevent the occurrence of damage. This study aims to evaluate the quality of maintenance of Ampel Surabaya mosque building. This study considers social-culture aspects and technical aspects as an instrument to support building maintenance and reliability enhancement. The quality of the maintenance affects the reliability of mosque building construction. The evaluation is done by considering the user's perception of the facility to worship in the mosque of Ampel. The method used is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The result of the research shows four variables that make up the model namely: Structural Component, Architectural Component as exogenous manifest variable 2, Quality Maintenance, and Construction Reliability. Relationships between variables indicate a strong level of significance. The path diagram model obtained is explained that the variability of Maintenance Quality is explained by Structural Component and Architectural Component of 81.6%, while Construction Reliability can be explained by Structural Component, Maintenance Quality, and Architectural Component variability of 87.2%.

    Advances in Social Science, Education and Humanities Research (ASSEHR), volume 228 International Conference on Language Phenomena in Multimodal Communication (KLUA 2018) Signs of Multilingualism at Religious Places in Surabaya: A Linguistic Landscape Study Ali Wafa, Universitas Airlangga Sheila Wijayanti, Universitas Airlangga Abstract This paper aims to present the languages used as public signs at the places of worship in Surabaya. The area is selected for its multilingual society. The data is in the forms of photos of outdoor and indoor signs and is taken from ten outstanding religious places in the city namely two mosques, two churches, two Chinese temples (klenteng), two Hindu temples (pura), and two Buddhist temples (vihara). Three hundred and eighty six public signs are collected. As stated by Landry and Bourhis (1997) the collected data is then analyzed based on the landscape linguistic theory. The results demonstrate that the languages as public signs found in the ten places of worship vary, i.e., Indonesian, Balinese, Javanese, Madurese, Malay, English, Chinese, Arabic, Pāli language, Latin language, German, French, Dutch and Japanese. However, Indonesian remains the most used language at mosques, churches, and Buddhist temples. However, Chinese language is the most frequently used at Chinese temples. Meanwhile, Indonesian and Balinese language almost have the same position at Hindu temples.     Middle Class Muslim Women and Beauty Industry Refti H. Listyani1, Emy Susanti2, Musta’in Mashud3 {[email protected], [email protected], [email protected]} Faculty of Social and Political Science, Airlangga University1,2,3 Abstract. This research examines disciplining the body of middle-class Muslim women by the beauty industry through halal cosmetics using an ethnomethodology approach. Several theories are employed in this research including the theory of sociology of body, gender perspective and the concept of capitalism. Results indicates that manipulation of the beauty industry places women as active consumers but remains passive at the same time because it cannot fight the flow of legitimacy of this body. The dependence of middle-class Muslim women on beauty products shows that women are now fully under the control of the beauty industry regime which continues to direct the discourse of beauty and women's appearance needs. The beauty of middle-class Muslim women has now been reproduced and discourse uniformly by the beauty industry through halal cosmetics. The implications of this research are this study is expected to contribute information and enrich the repertoire of social science especially sociology also for the development of research on women body, middle class and gender studies. The study was conducted on the mosques in the two regions with different climates. The objects of research are (1)the Great Mosque of Banten, (2) Great Mosque of Yogyakarta,both of them located in Indonesia and(3) Sehzade Mosque , (4) Mihrimah Mosque, located in Turkey. Data were collected by observation and secondary data. For the first purpose data is processed into information about: (1) thermal quality in space, (2) the pattern of thermal comfort, (3) the distinctiveness of the pyramid roof and dome. For the second purpose, the measurements of the openings dimensions, temperature and humidity are done. In addition, the macro climate secondary data per year in each city are collected indirectly. Data processing is done by calculation, use the chart manually and using software Autodask Ecotect. The results of this study are as follows: (1) Tajuk & Limasan-roofed mosque had more varied radiation temperatures in each month, while the dome mosque has relatively stable.

The Menara Kudus Mosque is one of the oldest mosque building sites in Central Java which became the center of Islamic development in Java by Walisongo, especially Sunan Kudus. The condition of the building of this mosque is still functioning properly because of the physical condition of the well-maintained building. The Menara Kudus Mosque is considered to have a good level of building reliability and resistance to all loading. Besides being reliable in terms of physical buildings, the mosque building which is the result of acculturation of local culture show tolerance and harmony of religious people. The architectural style that adopts the Hindu, Buddhist, and Javanese style of the building makes this building show Islam as a religion that supports peace and harmony in society. This study aims to make the modeling of the reliability of the Menara Kudus Mosque building based on user perceptions. The respondents who were targeted by questionnaires were mosque users, namely pilgrims who knew the development of the mosque. The data analysis method used is Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with architectural and structural variables as exogenous variables, stability as moderator variable, and reliability as endogenous variable. The results of the analysis show that the two exogenous variables have a positive effect on the moderator and endogenous variable.
