A Maine man who travels the nation to document the final resting places of poets has completed a summer tour in which he visited his 500th grave. He visited his father's grave in A look back at York, Pa. He's heading back home to Freeport, Maine. Most of his time was in the Deep South. He said he visited 97 graves CELEBRATION2015 over 70 days, bringing his total to 530. He said the most memorable event was a memorial to four girls killed in a church bombing in 1963 in Birmingham, Ala., where he read Dudley Randall's "Ballad of Birming- ham." The society's name was partly inspired by the 1989 Robin Williams movie "Dead Poets Society."

The Smithsonian said the photo went on display in the great hall of the Castle on Monday, which coin- cides with the day in 1846 that Presi- dent James K. Polk signed legisla- tion creating the institution. The image was taken in 1850 during the castle's construction and shows the two completed wings of the building. A crane is visible, and only two of the building's nine towers are complete. The Castle currently houses the Smithsonian's administrative head- quarters. Its cornerstone was laid on May 1, 1847.
