To be able to play with my son is a true gift. Eric really is a blessing. We have shared many concerts all over the world and it has always been a pure joy! Our musical backgrounds are different, so each of us is always bringing something special to the table. I have had the good fortune to work with great musicians: Oscar Peterson, Pat Metheny, Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, Ray Brown, Michel Legrand and Youn Sun Nah, to mention just a few. Eric spent a lot of time in Los Angeles, where he picked up many different directions from that city’s musical melting pot. He has played a lot of electric guitar, but - like me - he has fallen in love with the acoustic guitar and its many possibilities. To master an acoustic guitar is really to tame a beast, but if you succeed, the rewards are tremendous! Together we are searching for a distinctive sound and a great range of expression, based on our multitude of influences and on high ideals. We have just begun this adventure which will take us to many unexpected places. You are welcome to join us on this journey! In “Birdland” we remember the mighty Joe Zawinul, a true genius; and with “Dodge The Dodo / When God Created The Coffee Break“, we recall Esbjörn Svensson, a great musician and a great human being who left us too early. “Irish Vagabond” is a cross between Irish and Middle Eastern influences with more than a hint of European classical music. We pay tribute to our beautiful country Sweden in “Meine schöne Heimat / Vem kan segla förutan vind”. “Mistral” is named after the strong wind that I experienced at the Avignon Jazz Festival in France with Youn Sun Nah. It almost blew me off the stage, so I decided to write a song about it, dedicated to the wonderful Youn Sun Nah. “Once Upon A Time In America” is from a beautiful movie score by Ennio Morricone. “Paco‘s Delight” is my tribute to the greatest flamenco player of all time, Paco de Lucía. We have Simon & Garfunkel on our minds in “Scarborough Fair”. In “Eleanor Rigby” we are trying to create a little illusion of a string quartet for this classic song. The title track “Father And Son” by Cat Stevens is about a tricky father-son relationship. Eric and I are luckier - we don't have those problems... By the way, Cat Stevens has strong ties to Sweden. He had a Swedish mother, and he also lived there. And finally there is “Help ThePoor”: We have our own take on this song and it takes many different directions. Enjoy listening, Ulf Wakenius on tour in Chiang Mai (Thailand) 30.01.2017 ACT 9822-2 ACT 9565-2 ACT 9523-2 ACT 6005-2.
