Bit scary and I would say a number of you may have to go through beginner lessons again and also wear name tags lol. On the 9th of May the national association had their AGM with a number of clubs from throughout New Zealand that were involved. First time ever we had to run the meeting through zoom so talking to 40 odd people from around the country was quite weird but it worked. A number of remits were discussed and voted on with a collection of changes mostly good but a few I didn’t agree with but you all can see it all on the association website if you are interested in looking . Also senior and junior nationals were voted on where they should be hosted and that is also advertised on their website. Juniors next year will be in Porirua and Seniors will be in Wanganui. -

JUKEBOX JAZZ by Ian Muldoon* ______
JUKEBOX JAZZ by Ian Muldoon* ____________________________________________________ n 1955 Bill Haley’s Rock Around the Clock was the first rock and roll record to become number one on the hit parade. It had made a stunning introduction in I the opening moments to a film called Blackboard Jungle. But at that time my favourite record was one by Lionel Hampton. I was not alone. Me and my three jazz loving friends couldn’t be bothered spending hard-earned cash on rock and roll records. Our quartet consisted of clarinet, drums, bass and vocal. Robert (nickname Orgy) was learning clarinet; Malcolm (Slim) was going to learn drums (which in due course he did under the guidance of Gordon LeCornu, a percussionist and drummer in the days when Sydney still had a thriving show scene); Dave (Bebop) loved the bass; and I was the vocalist a la Joe (Bebop) Lane. We were four of 120 RAAF apprentices undergoing three years boarding school training at Wagga Wagga RAAF Base from 1955-1957. Of course, we never performed together but we dreamt of doing so and luckily, dreaming was not contrary to RAAF regulations. At around ten years of age he was given a windup record player and a modest supply of steel needles, on which he played his record collection, consisting of two 78s, one featuring Dizzy Gillespie and the other Fats Waller. -

FAT – Fabulous Austrian Trio
"Maybe it's the inevitable wisdom of age, with Machacek now in his early 40s, but as impressive as "Living the Dream" is, and as much as it fits comfortably in his overall discography, it's the album where, despite its many twists and turns, harmonic, melodic and rhythmic surprises, and the evolving chemistry of FAT, it's also the album where all three musicians come together with a sense of nothing left to prove. And it's that very comfort level with each other, and that very feeling of maturity that makes "Living the Dream" an even better record than the superb "FAT"...and one of the very best in Machacek's growing discography." John Kelman/AllAboutJazz "Alex Machacek's music starts where other music ends" John McLaughlin's reaction to "[sic]" Alex Europareisen wurden zur Lebenserhaltungsmaßnahme für das Trio und so reifte genug Material für das erste Album der Band “FAT” (2010). -
NEW ALBUM RELEASE - SIX & SIX | Swing to Bop
NEW ALBUM RELEASE - SIX & SIX | Swing to Bop In 2019 RÊVE BOHÈME released their sixth album on the Norwegian Gypsy Jazz label Hot Club Records. As the album title refers to, RÊVE BOHÈME has picked SIX lesser-known swing compositions from their hero DJANGO REINHARDT and matched them with SIX bebop standards that Django loved to play! All the songs on the album have the characteristic acoustic sound of RÊVE BOHÈME and with their modern and dynamic interpretation of these classic songs RÊVE BOHÈME makes an exiting contribution to the contemporary Gypsy Jazz-scene today. SIX & SIX | Swing to Bop was recorded in one studio session with RÊVE BOHÈME having fun and playing live, choosing mostly “first takes” of the recorded material – so this album is a must for all Django-enthusiasts and Gypsy Jazz lovers! Line-up: Jens Fuglsang (lead guitar), Finn Poulsen (harmonica) Robert Pilgaard (rhythm guitar), Jesper Riis (double bass) The band / The story - www.reve.dk Rêve Bohème is from Denmark but played their first concert at the gypsy jazz restaurant Bistro d'Eustache in Paris, 1998. Since then they have been touring and playing clubs and festivals in Norway, Sweden, Finland, France, England, Germany, Holland, Greece and Poland. The band have played and performed with international gypsy jazz artists such as Dorado Schmidt, Robin Nolan, Andreas Öberg, Jon Larsen & HCN, Gustav Lundgren, Basily, Paulus Schäfer, Angelo Debarre, Gary Potter, Biel Ballester, Mozes Rosenberg - and many others. Over the years Rêve Bohème have recorded in different line-ups and musical settings. Their fusion between the Nordic and South- European traditions have always created a unique musical universe which can be heard on their five previous albums: Django goes North 2012 (Calibrated), Café Django 2009 (Calibrated), Best of Rêve Bohème 2007 (Hot Club Records), Django’s Dream 2005 (Calibrated) and Django Jalousie 2002 (Cope). -

Bolig American Discography Project UC Santa Barbara Library © 2017 John R. Bolig. All rights reserved. ii The Victor Discography Series By John R. Bolig The advent of this online discography is a continuation of record descriptions that were compiled by me and published in book form by Allan Sutton, the publisher and owner of Mainspring Press. When undertaking our work, Allan and I were aware of the work started by Ted Fa- gan and Bill Moran, in which they intended to account for every recording made by the Victor Talking Machine Company. We decided to take on what we believed was a more practical approach, one that best met the needs of record collectors. Simply stat- ed, Fagan and Moran were describing recordings that were not necessarily published; I believed record collectors were interested in records that were actually available. We decided to account for records found in Victor catalogs, ones that were purchased and found in homes after 1901 as 78rpm discs, many of which have become highly sought- after collector’s items. The following Victor discographies by John R. Bolig have been published by Main- spring Press: Caruso Records ‐ A History and Discography GEMS – The Victor Light Opera Company Discography The Victor Black Label Discography – 16000 and 17000 Series The Victor Black Label Discography – 18000 and 19000 Series The Victor Black
