Water Rescue Team The Lake Monticello Swift Water Rescue Team spent Sunday, Oct. 5, training in rappel skills at the Charlottesville/Albemarle Fire Training Center. Those skills might be needed in water rescue along cliff s, such as river banks or quarries. Team members practiced self-rescue, or what to do if equipment malfunctions on the rope; pick-off s, rescuing a victim who is at- tached to the rescuer’s harness; and high lines, where in the event of extremely fast water, rescuers and victims can cross a river on a line strung well above the water’s surface.
