  • The US War on Cuba: from Economic Embargoes, Biological Warfare to US-Backed Terrorism
The US War on Cuba: From Economic Embargoes, Biological Warfare to US-Backed Terrorism By Timothy Alexander Guzman Region: Latin America & Caribbean, USA Global Research, August 01, 2021 Theme: History All Global Research articles can be read in 51 languages by activating the “Translate Website” drop down menu on the top banner of our home page (Desktop version). Before the rise of Cuba’s Communist party, there was a US-backed fascist government under the leadership ofFulgencio Batista who ruled Cuba with an iron fist. Batista was elected in 1940 serving a 4-year term. Then Batista’s reign of terror effectively began when he decided to run for re-election in 1952, but when his political party found itself practically in last place during the election with Roberto Agramonte of the Orthodox Party who was in the lead followed by Carlos Hevia of the Authentic Party, he decided to lead a military coup and cancel the elections. The current president at the time, President Carlos Prio Socarras went into exile as a result. So what did Washington do? They immediately recognized Batista’s government and gave him financial and military support among other benefits. In the meantime, Batista suspended the 1940 Constitution that he originally supported and then made a radical move by cancelling whatever civil liberties the Cuban people had left. Batista had total control over the Cuban economy that was once on equal grounds with Italy in terms of economic growth. One of Batista’s first moves as a typical dictator in Latin America when he gave his full-support to wealthy landowners who owned basically almost all of the sugar plantations on the island.

S/346 Inventory by Martyna Rusiniak Warsaw Draft translation 1 http://collections.ushmm.org http://collections.ushmm.org Contact [email protected] for further information about this collection Legacy of Chaim Finkelsztejn Years: 1936‐2002 History of the archival collection The Legacy of Chaim Finkelsztejn is a collection of documents found at the ZIH after the author's death, having been handed down by his wife. We have here a number of letters, mostly from war times. In addition, the legacy contains a large number of periodicals, mostly in Yiddish, collected after the war. Once arranged and classified, the collection contains 178 archival units which, I think, I arranged according to the author's wishes. Chaim Finkelsztejn's legacy encompasses materials from the years 1936 through 2002. The arrangement work resulted in the creation of six thematic groups. Group I consists of documents dealing mainly with Chaim Finkelsztejn. Group II consists of correspondence which was divided into war and post‐war correspondence, as well as private one: with family and friends; and official one. Group III encompasses memoirs, notations, projects, works being prepared during the period from the 1940's to the sixties of the twentieth century: those are fragments of Chaim Finkelsztejn's biography, typewritten articles about "Haynt" periodical, about Ilja Schorz . Group IV consists of books, brochures, periodicals, press clippings regarding Chaim Finkelsztejn or written by him.

  • Operation Sunrise: America’S OSS, Swiss Intelligence, and the German Surrender 1945
Operation Sunrise: America’s OSS, Swiss Intelligence, and the German Surrender 1945 by Stephen P. Halbrook* Operation Sunrise was a cooperative effort of American and Swiss intelligence services which led to the unconditional surrender of the German Wehrmacht forces in Northern Italy and Western Austria on May 2, 1945. General Heinrich von Vietinghoff, Commander-in- Chief of the Southwest Command and of Army Group C, surrendered nearly a million soldiers, the strongest remaining German force. This was the first great surrender of German forces to the Allies, and became a strong impetus for the final Allied victory over Nazi Germany on May 8, Victory in Europe (VE) Day. Operation Sunrise helped to nip in the bud Nazi aspirations for guerilla resistance in an Alpine redoubt. Sunrise, sometimes referred to as “Crossword,” has special significance today beyond the sixtieth anniversary of the German surrender. Despite Switzerland’s formal neutrality, Swiss intelligence agents aggressively facilitated American efforts to end the war. Ironically, the efforts of key U.S. intelligence agents on the ground to orchestrate the surrender were hampered and almost scuttled by leaders in Washington to appease Joseph Stalin, who wished to delay the surrender in the West so that Soviet forces could grab more territory in the East. *This paper was originally presented at the conference Sunrise ‘05, Locarno, Switzerland, May 2, 2005, and was published in “Operation Sunrise.” Atti del convegno internazionale (Locarno, 2 maggio 2005), a cura di Marino Viganò - Dominic M. Pedrazzini (Lugano 2006), pp. 103-30. The conference was held to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the surrender of German forces in northern Italy.

  • U.S. Democracy, the Cuban Five and the ANPP by Arnold August, April 2012
U.S. Democracy, the Cuban Five and the ANPP By Arnold August, April 2012 The U.S. has its definition of democracy. It is promoted for other countries that do not adhere to the U.S. as being the leader of the world. Cuba is one of those countries. For those countries that are allies or friendly to the U.S., Washington does not insist on its model. Since 1959, Cuba’s defence of its sovereignty and right to self-determination is perhaps the most consistent and long-lasting resistance to U.S. domination of any country in the contemporary world. U.S. democracy promotion for Cuba is far from being peaceful. The U.S. political and judicial system is not democratic when it comes to many issues as my book details in Chapter 2. One of the most flagrant violations of human rights in the entire history of the U.S. justice system is the case of the Cuban Five. Who are Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, to whom I have dedicated my book? It is necessary to go back into history to get to the roots of the Cuban Five. The U.S., as reviewed in Chapter 5, has used every means, including violence, in order to try to force regime change in Cuba, with “democracy promotion” being one of the signposts. Since 1960, there have been approximately 800 terrorist acts inside Cuba, resulting in 3,478 people being killed and 2,099 injured. “It is hard not to find someone who doesn’t have a story to tell of a relative or friend who has been a victim of terrorism.”1 According to the late U.S.

  • Staff Statement No
Outline of the 9/11 Plot Staff Statement No. 16 Members of the Commission, your staff is prepared to report its preliminary findings regarding the conspiracy that produced the September 11 terrorist attacks against the United States. We remain ready to revise our understanding of this subject as our work continues. Dietrich Snell, Rajesh De, Hyon Kim, Michael Jacobson, John Tamm, Marco Cordero, John Roth, Douglas Greenburg, and Serena Wille did most of the investigative work reflected in this statement. We are fortunate to have had access to the fruits of a massive investigative effort by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies, as well intelligence collection and analysis from the Central Intelligence Agency, the National Security Agency, the State Department, and the Department of Defense. Much of the account in this statement reflects assertions reportedly made by various 9/11 conspirators and captured al Qaeda members while under interrogation. We have sought to corroborate this material as much as possible. Some of this material has been inconsistent. We have had to make judgment calls based on the weight and credibility of the evidence. Our information on statements attributed to such individuals comes from written reporting; we have not had direct access to any of them. Plot Overview Origins of the 9/11 Attacks The idea for the September 11 attacks appears to have originated with a veteran jihadist named Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM). A Kuwaiti from the Baluchistan region of Pakistan, KSM grew up in a religious family and claims to have joined the Muslim Brotherhood at the age of 16.

  • Murder, Arrogance of Power, and the Struggle for Social Dominance in the US
Murder, Arrogance of Power, and the Struggle for Social Dominance in the US The moral cesspool of National Politics Introduction Since leaving a start-up company as a result of the dot-com bust, I have engaged in, among other things, reviewing the literature to try to understand the controversy regarding various, potentially linked, events, including: the murders of John Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Robert Kennedy; Iran-Contra; the PROMIS affair; the October surprise; domestic call-boy—corruption rings; the Panama invasion, and the two Iraq wars. Note: Most people who read the following will find it extremely disturbing, since it shakes our confidence in our basic institutions and leaders. However, I believe that the material below is accurate. It represents a distillation of many books and web references which, though written independently by credible researchers, corroborate each other. Although I have footnoted many of the statements, I chose not to be even more comprehensive to make the document shorter and more readable. It is not enough to just document excesses, though. I plan another white paper to deal with correcting those excesses.1 Initially, two key remedies appear to be: Almost complete transparency in government, and declassification of almost everything over, say, 10 years old. Setting up independent review panels of any federal operations that have the capacity to commit, or allow, significant crimes. Decriminalization of drug possession and distribution. Drug money is funding almost all the illicit activities, and maintaining a web of corruption that is so pervasive that the entire government is dysfunctional2. 1 The revelations in this document are less than a few percent of that convincingly presented in the literature.

Even though Castro is no longer the president of Cuba, the authoritarian and communist state remains in power in the hands of his brother, Raúl. As the hegemon of the Western Hemisphere, the United States has labored to combat this repressive force that threatens democracy only ninety miles from its shores. Nevertheless, U.S. efforts to destabilize the Castro regime in Cuba have not been effective. In this paper, I analyze the U.S. embargo against Cuba and the Cuban Medical Professional Parole Program, both of which are U.S. government initiatives intended to weaken the Cuban government. Through a comparison of U.S. relations with Saudi Arabia, China, and Cuba I find that the United States’ foreign policy is guided more by domestic pressure, strategic decisions, and economics than human rights or ideology.
