Cross Cultural Participation Survey (CAPS), Bemidji Site, 2000, a subcontract from the University of South Carolina for $37,000. This was a grant from the Women‟s Initiative Fund of the NIH to study activity patterns in Native American women over the age of 40 years. The Bemidji Site will study the metabolic cost of gather Maple sap as well as validate the Physical Activity Survey (PAS) developed by Dr. Barbara Ainsworth.

Cross Cultural Participation Survey, Bemidji Site, 1999, a subcontract from the University of South Carolina, $86,000. This was a grant from the Women‟s Initiative Fund of the NIH to study activity patterns in Native American women over the age of 40 years. The Bemidji site studied the metabolic cost of Jingle Dancing and harvesting wild rice as well as participated in the CAPS Physical Activity Lifestyle Group study, which was used to further validate the PAS survey. We worked with the Health Division of the Leech Lake Chippewa Tribe.

CONTRIBUTION TO STUDENT GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT – key accomplishments from 2004-2008

I arranged for PHED 4160, Personal Trainer: aerobic exercise, to facilitate a “Stretch and Strengthen” program for 15 minutes daily, for 6 weeks at the Bemidji Senior Citizen Center. Both the students and the seniors profited from the experience. March and April 2005 to present

PHED 4160, Personal Trainer: aerobic exercise, students were assigned to a volunteer from the BSU faculty or staff to assess their fitness and help them with a program of exercise for 6 sessions. This was well received by the students as well as the BSU faculty and staff. One year of the 4 in this plan I worked with the Beltrami County Wellness Committee and the BSU students worked with Beltrami County employees.

About 6 six students each year attend the Northland Chapter Spring Tutorial in St. Cloud, MN with me.

I worked as an advisor and co-investigator as Jill Luebke completed her exercise science practicum. She studied the relationship between METs and accelerometer counts at the hip and knee during inline skating.

Northland Chapter ACSM strategic planning – I have participated in strategic planning for the chapter on three occasions – approximately 1991, 2000 and in March 2008. The first session was one and a half days. The two most recent planning sessions were less than a half day.

Winters 1993-2008 Instructor for the Bemidji Area Cross Country Ski Club Youth Ski League (now called Sunday Ski School). Three to four weeks of 2 hour lessons on Sundays are offered. I have been the coordinator for the past two years.

2001-2008 I have been a skinfold technician trainer for the Minnesota State High School League for certifying wrestlers for weight classes.
