contamination, bacteriological 87 % of monitoring points that are within the unacceptable range, 3% acceptable, 8% is ideal and 2% tolerable.  The challenges are sewer related, sewer blockages, vandalism on infrastructure and grey water from informal settlement.  Chemical quality is not bad and is showing improvement. 44% acceptable, 55% tolerable, and there is no monitoring points showing unacceptable.  The city continues to implement sewer infrastructure upgrade, clearance of blockages when reported.  They are also performing hydro jetting sewer reticulation but the main challenge is the sewer rats that are forever vandalizing the infrastructure which is impacting on the water quality.  The city is also involved on the bylaw enforcement and compliance, investigation and pollution.  City of Johannesburg has assigned a task team to attend all the monitoring points that are added to the ward board list; there are a high percentage of points that are showing unacceptable.  City of Johannesburg has sent a request to Joburg Water (JW) to attend the forum meeting. JW will have more clarity as they deal with monitoring of water quality.  A. Barker suggested that since Joburg Water has been called to attend the forum and failed the matter must be reported to the MMC or Mayoral committee.  D. Etienne Hugo to be called to delegate someone to attend the forum meetings. 8.4 Rand Water Rand Water  M de Fontaine reported that the level of ammonia at K1 is of concern in terms of the upper Klip River catchment, particularly around the Soweto area. The sites K4, K5 and K6 are those sites that pass through Soweto and indicate that whilst ammonia levels are high, sodium and sulphate levels are not cause for concern.  Ecoli counts at K18, K19, K21 and K25 are relatively low in the tens of thousands, and even though this still represents Unacceptable water quality, at least they are not in the hundreds or thousands or million counts. The high levels of Ecoli recorded at K4 and E17 are most likely indicative of overflowing manholes or broken sewer lines discharging into the river system.  The discharge of AMD water from the central basis is having an impact on the upper Klip River catchment but this has not been fully investigated as discharges from the plant are not continuous. It is expected that the planned discharge of up 85Mg/day will be fully operational by mid-2016 following which further investigations will be undertaken.

 Mining activities in the lower reaches of the Rietspruit catchment are also contributing to the AMD impacts of the Klip River catchment. This is particularly noted at sample points R1, R4, R5 and R6.  Overall, the water quality of the Klip River catchment is relatively good apart from the above noted issues.

Some of the structural damage will cost 8.6 million going to the Waterval WWTW. The construction will start early July this year.  Sewer blockage and vandalism of the sewerline are the great challenges on the operational part.  Heidelburg Road the first phase towards Dekema is almost complete.  Phase two from Huntersfield the consultant is finalizing the contactor.  Further down at Moleketi there was sewer blockage that caused pollution on the Nataspruit, but will be cleaned as time goes on.  NAT 3 - Natalspriut down to Huntersfield there was challenges with the stormwater. 8.6 Erwat Erwat  Dekema works there was a challenge with Ecoli due to new supply of disinfectant.
