You can get this in most Boots pharmacies and GP surgeries. Boots also have appointments available for their private Winter Flu Jab Service, which costs £13.99, suitable for customers aged 16-49. https://www.boots.com/online/pharmacy-services/winter-flu-jab-services  Those eligible to receive the Covid vaccine will receive an invitation to book their appointment. For most people this will be a phone call, text or a letter, either from their GP or the NHS. This communication will include all the information people will need to book appointments, including their NHS number. Your appointment could be at one of a variety of sites such as a GP surgery, Primary Care Network vaccination centre or a larger vaccination site. Local GP surgeries at Leiston and Saxmundham are now calling people for their vaccinations and are working their way through their priority lists. There is now also a national NHS vaccination unit which is contacting people to invite them for a vaccination at a national centre which may be quite far away, and this may cause

Updated 18th March 2021

some confusion. The national unit is not offering vaccination slots locally, and does not have access to the local surgeries’ booking systems. If you do receive an invitation from the national unit, your options are: a. To take the national appointment offered if it is somewhere that you are happy to go. b. To wait for your GP surgery to offer you an appointment locally. c. To accept the national appointment and then cancel it, if your GP offers you an appointment before you have gone to the national one, as it can then be offered to someone else. N.B. In this rapidly changing environment, if you’re unsure please check with your GP surgery. This website is also very useful: https://sneevaccine.org.uk/ The Primary Care Network vaccination sites locations can be found here: https://sneevaccine.org.uk/information-and-guidance/vaccination-sites/ The closest national vaccination site is Norwich. Useful information about the vaccine here too: https://file- eu.clickdimensions.com/ncvoorguk-ahxvj/files/covid- 19vaccine_commspack2752.pdf?m=2%2F4%2F2021+4%3A08%3A00+PM&_cldee=YW5kcmV3YXVsZDczQGdtY WlsLmNvbQ%3D%3D&recipientid=contact-411e3df09f48eb11a812000d3ab7f90f- 6d8ef3832b0a48eea56f360f0720f90b&utm_source=ClickDimensions&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=N CVO%3A+Coronavirus&esid=a6741456-f566-eb11-a812-000d3ab18bf5  New asymptomatic rapid testing centres in Suffolk: https://www.communityactionsuffolk.org.uk/wp- content/uploads/2021/02/Haverhill-and--Testing.pdf and further useful asymptomatic testing information here: https://www.suffolk.gov.uk/coronavirus-covid-19/getting-a-test/covid-19-asymptomatic- testing/

Scams and Security

 Sadly there are a lot of new scams operating at present e.g. people pretending to be from the Red Cross. Please check online for the latest information on scams and cons e.g. Suffolk Trading Standards and remember to:

1. Never sign or agree to anything on the spot. 2. Check the trader’s identity. Always ask for an identity card and look up the organisation to check the salesperson’s identity is genuine. 3. Be wary of special offers or warnings about your home or your health. 4. Read the small print. Always read documents carefully before you sign them and make sure you fully understand your rights. 5. Double check the facts. 6. Talk to someone you trust for a second opinion. 7. Trust your instincts. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. 8. Please report any cold callers to Trading Standards via 0808 223 1133.

 View the latest scam information here: https://www.friendsagainstscams.org.uk/

 COVID Vaccination Scam Alerts

There have been reports of a new scam where a person receives a text saying they need to book a vaccination appointment and it takes them to a fake NHS form which then asks for their bank details to prove their identity. The NHS will never ask for a person’s banking information so please do not provide as it will be a scam. There is a texting scam leaflet you can download here: https://cfa.nhs.uk/resources/downloads/fraud-awareness/covid- 19/COVID-19_SMS_and_Text_Message_Scams.pdf

Police message February 2021: The NHS will never ask for your bank account or card details or banking password and the NHS will never arrive announced at your home to administer the vaccine. If you receive a call you believe to be fraudulent, hang up. If you are suspicious about an email you have received, forward to Updated 18th March 2021

The line is also open to other healthcare professionals, such as ambulance staff and GPs, as well as social care colleagues and police personnel who may need advice when working with individuals who are undergoing mental health difficulties or may wish to refer someone. Citizens Advice Leiston and Saxmundham

“As the country comes out of lockdown (again!) we are expecting to see more changes for many people in our area with their employment and finances.

Citizens Advice Leiston Saxmundham and District works closely with organisations in the community. We are therefore aware of support available to people who have financial worries. So, for example, with schools now back, no doubt many children have grown out of their uniforms during this lockdown period. If you are struggling to get your secondary school children equipped, do get in contact as we may be able to help.

Citizens Advice also helps clients with a financial health check to review your income and outgoings. It means checking that you are receiving all the income you should be and that you aren't paying more for services you need - or even paying for services you don't need at all.

We continue to remain open but with no face to face meetings - you can reach us by phone, email or post. https://www.leistoncab.org/ Call us on 01728 832193 or Freephone 0808 278 7868 [email protected] to make contact” Also, if you may be able to help as a volunteer please get in touch.

Can I use the train?

Government advice is to stay at home and only to travel for essential reasons, such as work, medical appointments and other legally permissible reasons.

Our Safer Travel Pledge has and remains a key component in our fight against COVID and is our promise to you, that we are committed and doing all we can to keep you safe in these trying times.
