Would you like to be a Local Recorder ? The Suffolk Local History Council runs a Local Recorders Scheme throughout Suffolk. We administer a network of volunteers to en- sure that the ‘present’ is adequately recorded at local level for the ‘future’. A Local Recorder will note significant happenings in their parish and collect their local parish magazines, leaflets, election pamphlets and newspaper cuttings. At the end of each year, they are asked to sub- mit a short report summarising the activities of their parish. The reports are deposited at the Suffolk Record Office and available to future researchers together with the collected items.

  • Benefice Profile 2019
The Benefice of Walton and Trimley Benefice Profile 2019 Welcome and Introduction Welcome to the Benefice of Walton and Trimley and our profile. The Benefice is situated near the end of a peninsula bordered by the river Deben to the north, the river Orwell to the south and the North Sea to the east. Walton originally spanned a large area adjacent to a small fishing hamlet known as Felixstowe, with the Trimleys being slightly further inland. Today Walton and Trimley are considered to be on the outskirts of the town of Felixstowe. The Benefice was formed in 2014 from the parishes of St Mary’s Walton and St Martin’s and St Mary’s Trimley. Each church is happy and active but with its own identity. Both churches are central parts of the community around them and have church families with a heart and a desire for bringing Jesus to the people of their parish and sharing His love for them. The two parishes work closely together, they have equal and separate PCCs but do come together as a Benefice PCC three times a year. Each PCC contributes towards the Parish Share so that as a Benefice this is paid in full. The Benefice churches belong to and support Churches Together in Felixstowe which links the Christian witness in the town and provides joint ventures in which many members of the church families participate. These includes events during Unity Week, a procession of witness from St Mary’s church to the town centre on Good Friday where a united service is held and a ‘Son Rise’ service on Easter Sunday morning at the beach.

Present Mr J O’Mahony, Vice Chairman Mrs D Twitchett, Miss A Mortimer, Mr B Panton, Mr T Sheppard, Mr A Searle, Mr I Lamont Mr R Lindsay, Suffolk County Councillor. Mrs M Maybury and Mr C Arthey, District Councillors for Lavenham Ward. 4 members of the public Public Forum - Mr John Pawsey, Chair of the Friends of Lavenham Airfield, spoke about plans in hand and ambitions for the future. The group has received many gifts from veterans and is looking for a site for a museum, perhaps in conjunction with another group such as the Parish Council. The annual FOLA celebrations will take place to coincide with the VE Day 75 weekend, this will involve many village groups and FOLA would like very much for the Parish Council to be involved as well. Fundraising for the memorial to the 233 servicemen who died flying from Lavenham Airfield continues. Alpheton Parish Council has made a £200 donation. Increasing numbers of relatives, children and grandchildren, are coming back and staying in the village, keeping the connection going. Mr Pawsey hoped that the people of the village continued to consider the Airfield, and the people who had served there, as part of the community. Police Matters – Go to https://www.suffolk.police.uk/your-area/snt-newsletters for the October 2019 copy of the new-look newsletter, third edition Constable’s County, which is published at two-monthly intervals. • The Parishes of Brandeston and Kettleburgh
THE PARISHES OF BRANDESTON AND KETTLEBURGH Dear Friends “Thank you”. I’ve found myself wanting to say thank you at various moments and to various people during the last month or so. I’ve wanted to say thank you to everyone who made our Harvest Festivals such memorable events earlier this month, and to all those people whose donations will provide positive improvements to the lives of people in the third World; and thank you, too, for the wonderful Harvest Lunches and Suppers which so many of us enjoyed. Thank you, also, to all who helped with the annual clean-up and tidy of Churches and Church-yards in the benefice. The spirit with which so many people took part made these occasions fun as well as achieving their purpose. And thank you, too, for all the help that you have given to your Church throughout the last year. The Church is there for you when you need it; and it is wonderful that so many people have continued to support their Church this year, in all the ways they have. Of course, November is the month each year when we express our eternal thankfulness for all those who served their country during time of war; we do this in our annual “Remembrance” of those who have lost their lives. A few weeks ago, I met a Journalist who spent six months of 2008 in Afghanistan, working with 16 th Air Assault Brigade, the Army Formation based in Colchester. He has now published a book describing the conditions under which our young men and women serve there.

  • February 2019 Newsletter
for Issue Feb 2019 Connecting Communities ince becoming leader of Suffolk County Council, I have continued to keep broadband at the top of my agenda. I am pleased to tell you that the Better Broadband for Suffolk program has Sreached a new milestone, 93% of homes and businesses across Suffolk can now upgrade to a Superfast Broadband service. This is fantastic news and means an overwhelming majority of residents, businesses and organisations can now enjoy the benefits of faster and more reliable internet speeds. But as a resident and a councillor of a rural ward where some premises still do not enjoy these benefits, I know we have further to go. We already have a contract in place for Openreach to extend fibre broadband coverage to 98% of all Suffolk premises by 2020. But even beyond this, we are committed to reaching 100% Superfast Broadband coverage in Suffolk as quickly as possible. So, if you haven’t already done so, check if Superfast Broadband is available where you live by following the simple steps below, but don’t forget, even if broadband is available, you will need to upgrade your connection to enjoy the benefits of the higher speeds. I look forward to updating you on our future progress. Cllr. Matthew Hicks Leader of Suffolk County Council and Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure Here are three simple steps to upgrade Step 1 Finding out whether Better Broadband is available to your postcode Visit our website at www.betterbroadbandsuffolk.com/upgrade-now. Just having the ability to connect doesn’t mean you automatically have Superfast Broadband.
