for Issue Feb 2019 Connecting Communities ince becoming leader of Suffolk County Council, I have continued to keep broadband at the top of my agenda. I am pleased to tell you that the Better Broadband for Suffolk program has Sreached a new milestone, 93% of homes and businesses across Suffolk can now upgrade to a Superfast Broadband service. This is fantastic news and means an overwhelming majority of residents, businesses and organisations can now enjoy the benefits of faster and more reliable internet speeds. But as a resident and a councillor of a rural ward where some premises still do not enjoy these benefits, I know we have further to go. We already have a contract in place for Openreach to extend fibre broadband coverage to 98% of all Suffolk premises by 2020. But even beyond this, we are committed to reaching 100% Superfast Broadband coverage in Suffolk as quickly as possible. So, if you haven’t already done so, check if Superfast Broadband is available where you live by following the simple steps below, but don’t forget, even if broadband is available, you will need to upgrade your connection to enjoy the benefits of the higher speeds. I look forward to updating you on our future progress. Cllr. Matthew Hicks Leader of Suffolk County Council and Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Infrastructure Here are three simple steps to upgrade Step 1 Finding out whether Better Broadband is available to your postcode Visit our website at www.betterbroadbandsuffolk.com/upgrade-now. Just having the ability to connect doesn’t mean you automatically have Superfast Broadband. You will need to upgrade your service by ordering a Superfast Broadband package with an internet service provider. Step 2 Choosing a supplier to upgrade to Superfast Broadband The best way of choosing a supplier is to use a broadband comparison website. Step 3 What if Superfast Broadband isn’t available in the area yet If Superfast Broadband isn’t available to your premises yet, you can contact us using the form on our website www.betterbroadbandsuffolk.com/contact-us You will need to include your full name, address and telephone number in the query. Please note: We may need to share their address and telephone numbers with Openreach to answer your question. 1 More people in Suffolk are upgrading to Superfast Broadband, don’t be left out The latest figures show that across the county the customer take up rate for Superfast Broadband is now at 60% this is good news and one of the highest rates in the country, but we want this rate to be even higher. There is so much that Superfast Broadband can do to transform your home or business. Whether it is streaming your favourite TV programs or movies, skyping relatives that live far away or helping with homework, the first step is to check if you have Superfast and then find a provider that meets your needs. Over the next 12 months we will be revisiting areas where broadband has been available for sometime, but less than half of residents have upgraded to a Superfast Broadband connection. We will be providing promotional materials for parish councils to share with residents, but if you would like posters or leaflets for your business or organisation to help spread the word, please use the contact form on our website and we will be happy to help. e st Broadband is her Superfa Did you know we get money back from contractors if we reach our take up targets which we can then use to help connect even more people in Suffolk – so if you How do I get it upgrade, you’re helping others upgrade too!
