Tulare County Farm Bureau will provide refreshments. The sheriff and his deputies will address such issues as aware- ness, prevention, resources, legislation and ways to help each other prevent further losses. The meeting is of interest to farmers and ranchers, business owners, the building industry, recyclers and the general public. All are welcome to attend the free meeting. Tulare County Farm Bureau is presenting 11 deserving students with college scholarships valued at $22,500. They were publicly recognized for their achievements at the recent annual meeting. “Advancing youth education is a major Farm Bureau priority;” said TCFB President Keith Watkins, “we're very pleased to be able to help these young men and women reach their educational and career goals.” The Tulare County Farm Bureau Education and Scholarship Foundation annually awards grants on a competitive basis in a variety of categories. Some are directed to qualified applicants according to the wishes of those who provided the grant funds; others go to those seeking careers in agriculture; to future teachers; one is given to a student whose parent is a farm employee and others are simply based on merit. She will enter UC Davis in the fall to begin the path to her goal of becoming a veterinarian. Her parents are Brent and Tina Sparlin, of Tulare. Page 8 Tulare County Farm Bureau News June 2008 {YOUNG FARMERS & RANCHERS NOTES....by Melissa DePaoli Members Help at Habitat For Humanity On April 26, Tulare County Young Farmers and Ranchers gathered at a Habitat for Humanity home on Houston Ave. They volunteered their time putting the final touches on a home that was started six months ago. There were a variety of jobs to be done—from painting to installing hinges, hanging doors, and hooking up the kitchen stove. It was a day well spent. The new owners of the home {left to right: Elisabeth May, Joey served lunch to all and were very Bakalian, Renee Prescott, Matt Watkins, appreciative of the hard work done Melissa DePaoli, Matt Hendrick, by Young Farmers and Ranchers. Approximately 16 members met for some paintball fun. This was a great activity that also incorporated team building skills for members. While some of us may have had our doubts about the whole paintball experience we all agreed, in the end, that it was definitely something we would like to do again.
