4 Dear Friends, The effects of Brexit remain uncertain. North Korea has the bomb and the ability to launch it. President Trump has recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel triggering fresh anger, pain and death. Global warming continues apace and David AttenboroughÊs Blue Planet has highlighted the crisis of plastic pollution in the worldÊs oceans. How can the Church respond to a changing and challenging world and to peopleÊs deep- seated fears and anxieties? We live in a world where there is a great deal of pain, distress, hatred and conflict. To suggest otherwise is at best naive and at worst dishonest. When so many are feeling insecure we need to assert and celebrate the certainty and constancy of GodÊs love for humanity and for all creation. Our response must be to preach the love of God displayed in his Son Jesus Christ. We might need to think about how we preach it, where we preach it and when we preach it, but we must preach it. Further we need to admit that as Christians we do not have all the answers and that our understanding of GodÊs world is partial and imperfect. But we still need to declare that we live in GodÊs creation, and that God relies on us to care for it, nurture it and ensure that its resources are both conserved and distributed fairly. Yes, we live in uncertain and disturbing times but we have received the blessings of GodÊs grace, we live in troubled times but we have experienced the freedom of GodÊs forgiveness, we live in dark times but God has sent his Son, the Light of the World to lighten our darkness. This Lent as the days get slowly longer focus on that light, seek that forgiveness and cherish that blessing. Mark

The Lion for 2018 his year we read the Gospel of St Mark almost every Sunday. His Tsymbol, the winged lion, derives from his description of John the Baptist as a voice „crying out in the wilderness‰. Those who heard his voice said it sounded like that of a roaring lion. Although St MarkÊs gospel isnÊt the first in the New Testament, he is widely regarded as the first Gospel writer and the main source for both Matthew and Luke. He wrote for non-Jews; his purpose is to give readers an understanding of who Jesus is: the Son of God and the suffering Son of Man.

Ministry Share Deanery Meeting Never look down on anyone unless you epresentatives from the 67 churches of the Radnor & are helping them up. RBuilth Deanery met at Holy Trinity in November for a preliminary discussion about Ministry Share payments. Ministry Share is the financial contribution each church makes to the diocese, to ensure that all aspects of ministry can be carried out across the diocese. The meeting made three important decisions: 1. It agreed the principle of subsidisation across the deanery, i.e. one Ministry Area may be asked to support others so the deanery as a whole can pay its allocation. This principle already exists at provincial, diocesan and Ministry Area levels: the province subsidises each diocese, Greater Gower deanery subsidises the other three deaneries in our diocese, some churches within Ministry Areas support other smaller congregations. 2. It agreed a model for calculating payments based on the actual costs of providing ministry in our deanery, rather than on worshipper numbers. A model based on worshipper numbers discourages growth. 3. To enable the adoption of this new model, it was agreed that increases/decreases to 2017 payments would NOT be restricted to 5%. Mirroring the diocesan 5% limit would tie us into the old (discredited) model. - Mark Beaton

I have always wanted to visit MonetÊs Garden, so perhaps this is just the incentive I need to get on and do it! Although in all fairness he did not say which gardens he was going to lead us through! It will be a surprise journey. Just a note of reminder: this year we have changed the day of our meetings to the 3rd Monday of the month, starting at 7.30pm in the Community Hall, New Radnor. We look forward to welcoming you all and would remind you that membership remains at £5 per annum and includes a discount card for Midway Nursery, Pennybont. In the absence of their Gardening speaker, HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Hermione found consolation in her snowman.
